I applied for the Business Partner Program with Drs. Foster and Smith...Rewards for Aquarium Societies/Clubs that Promote Aquatic Education & Awareness

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/general.cfm?gid=479

It takes 24-48 hours to be approved by them.

With the frozen foods and dry goods that are ordered we would qualify for 10% off. (order is over $500 this time)

Shipping $240.01 and over cost $15.99. The frozen foods are a flat rate of $19.99. So the shipping on this order is $35.98. If more is added to the order there will be no additional shipping charge.

I am waiting to hear back from them to put in the order to get the 10% off.

I anybody else wants in on the order let me know.

Fish food sale....25% off
:fish1: :fish2: :fish1: :fish2: :fish1:

I already tried togo that route. It wasn't approved by the club. I submitted the papers to Ken to pass on to Joe. PM him for details

Thats one of the programs we have dicussed along with the comission that got shot down

Two of the council said if I could get it then I could go for it.

The two council people didn't say I had to ask anybody else...I hope it was ok and doesn't get anybody upset. (don't anybody hurt me....I am only trying to help :mixed:

Well, I'm not sure what's going on here, but the one thing I was opposed to previously, and still am, is opening a bank account under the club's name which requires not for profit designation and the requirement to file taxes. Paperwork ... :thumbdown

If this "Business Partner Program" requires any of this, then I am against it, but I don't think it does, and in that case, I am fine with it.

Likewise, if it requires us to send them personal information about club members.

I proposed two programs the "Business Partnership program" Which won't apply to many members order due to needing to be $500 or more for a 10% discount.

There is also the other program which we could have setup where the club would recieve a comission for all orders placed with LiveAquaria, Etropicals & DrsFosterSmith. It could be setup as such:

They could tally all the comission and could be given out in gift certificates, frags/ corals and equipment-dry goods. I do not see why that would require a not for profit paperwork? They would hold the comission, the council could decide how they would want to recieve the credit and it could be used for raffles etc to fund money for education and guest speakers. But hey, thats just my .02 and will leave it at that. Not worth dragging back up over and over again.

I don't know if it would or not, but what I do know is that you suggested we get a bank account under the club's name, and that DOES require not for profit designation.

I agree. Let's drop it! :)

Let Lucy 'splain it to you.

no paperwork, no bank account, no member information, no blood type, no sexual preference, no nothing......

Yes, you have to spend $500 or more...and Yes, we ARE spending $500+. So we are looking at saving $50+. The percent is taken off the order. No year end credit, no commision, no gift certificates....

We qualify as a reef club to get in the program. We do not have to be not for profit. The reason we are spending this much is because we have enough people going in on the buy.

Is this something that is ok for CDMAS? If not, someone 'splain it to Lucy please. (I have called Dr.'s Foster and Smith 4 times today trying to find out what I am missing with this offer. The reps. assured me that I'm not misunderstanding it...I feel like calling again to make sure...but they are getting to know my voice).

Let me know if I should tell them not to have us in the program.
(the worse thing that could happen is that you will make Tom a happy man by having me cut back on my order ;) )

Tom's the BEST!

Sooo I got off the phone with them and there is no catch....10% off the order at the time of order in excess of $500 bucks. If I go ahead and do this it will take 3 biz days and wont apply to anything already ordered or on hold according to the lady I spoke with.

Sounds painless.... I suppose. Linda did you fill it out yet

For the record....This was not the way it was explained to me originally when the last order was placed. There was mention of commisions and such which is a whole nother part of this prgram which we dont have to get involved in. This part will involve a check, of which we can not cash.

Sooo for the 10% benifit it's ok, but the commission part is not gonna work for our club at this time.

Ok so Linda did infact sign up the club for The affiliate program. And as soon as it's approved.....48hrs we shold be all set.

Thanks Linda

"requirement to file taxes. Paperwork "
vin- this is really inaccurate to put it this way. Believe me, I dealt with bank accts much bigger than ours with WAMAS and never had to file. That said- yes there is paperwork, but really it's not that bad. The biggest trouble is changing names on bank accounts which usually requires folks to show up in person. A DBA is cheap, and going for a 401c3 status isn't needed at this time- which does require a fair amount of work.

I agree with the release of club members information- to a small extent, but I don't think it would be hard to do an opt out for members. 90% of us our on their mailing list already I imagine.
