Does anyone else think the acan craze is over?

Don't get me wrong. I still like acans very much. Just don't hear a lot about them lately. When chatter dies down about a certain coral, then it seems the craze is over.

The chatter is dying a bit because all the transhippers have been delaying their acan shipments to the US. There hasn't been anything new really for a couple months.

Weird how everyone still has them for sale despite no new shipments for a "couple of months"

When exactly did shipments stop? Seems like in a "couple of months" vendors would have already run out of "one of a kind" aussies. Then again, all shipments are soon to be stopped permanently right?

Depends who you are asking. Sellers will say "we are no longer bringing them in" and buyers will say "yeah, the craze is over so you need to drop your prices". Unless we see a flood of Aussie like the Indos a few years back, I don't think the prices on the Aussies will drop that far (except for the plain green and red ones).

I only think the craze is dying down in that we are starting to figure out which color morphs are more common... Whenever we first saw the brilliance of the Aussies we were all stunned and willing to pay a ton for any that came available... Since then we have determined that some of the 2-3 colored morphs are common or at least easier to come by...

There are still a few out there I would love to have, but I'm not going to pay $100+ per head... If that means I'll never have the 5+ color morphs, then so be it... ;)

Wow $100 per head is insane.
I just ordered 7 acan frags.
Just one was kind of expensive at $25 per head, and the others were $6-12 per head.

But yeah, they may not be the most exotic acans out there.

Crappo camera that i have no clue how to use and no photoshopping or playing with settings at all. Someone with a real camera and a little photoshopping and this would look UNBELIEVABLE! If i could take a decent pic you could see all 6 colors(green, orange, red, purple/maroon,yellow and grey). Bought within the last 2 months, worked out to less than $6 a head so i'd REALLY like to see a $100 a head aussie!

Depends on your definition of "Craze"

People's interest in any given item is cyclical, as of right now consumers have grown accustom to the easy accessibility of high quality AU corals. It was the same way with micros when they were abundant, then once the supply wanes people start to become more interested again.

Don't let the current abundance fool you, I'd be surprised in AU stays open for exports another year or two. Brightly colored corals will always be a premium regardless of species, now is a good time to take advantage of the better prices brought out by the abundance IMO =)

I love acans and hope the prices go down instead of them just falling off the map. I think rics have gotten to be the "in" coral.

What's the reason for the delay?

From what I heard it was due to bad weather with collecting. Just because the wholesalers have them doesn't mean they were recently shipped from australia. I know at least some of the transhippers haven't sent any out for a couple months.
