Yes I do everytime I use the RODI unit. It is very simple to add a flush bypass valve as long as you have a cartridge type of restrictor. If you have the long this plastic sleeve type if restrictor, then you need to change it out. Go to BRS the flush kits are very simple and probably under $10.00!
You should have TDS Meters in-line on your RO/DI system. I use 2 dual TDS meters, so checks at 4 points in the overall process. One checks input and final output. The other checks at a couple points in the processing of the water, I believe one checks output from my RO membrane and then the output from my first DI cartridge. It is set up based on how the guys at Spectrapure said to set it up on my particular system.
FWIW, I went without a flush valve for years but added one a year or two ago because the first RO unit that I owned for keeping Discus had one and I liked being able to flush the membrane before and after use. So cheap, it's worth having and does help extend the life of your membrane.
