Id love to start a carbon reactor but I need something to feed it. How much force should flow through it on a 160g system?

I suppose I could careless if it's barely working or really tiny... all I need is for it to push water through a tube...

Depends on the size of the reactor. Most people use TLF phosban reactors for carbon because they are so cheap. For something that size a minijet 404 would be good for carbon. Would need to valve it down for GFO.

I have been using the little harbor freight pumps for about 2 years now with no ill effects. I think they sell them in 90gph and 140gph for around 6 or 8 bucks.

I use a MaxiJet 400 (around 100gph). I've read that lower flow was better...but my MJ400 seems to be working fine.

Wow... Petco has a cheap petco brand powerhead I got for 14 bucks... 150 gph... i figure that should do it right?

yes- what type of carbon? if it is soft you have to worry about it crushing and particles clogging stuff if the flow is too strong.
