Does anyone keep just one Ocellaris?

I lost one of my Ocellaris yesterday and I'm undecided if I should pick up another one. Does anyone keep just one? Does it seem happy by itself?

Any pros or cons to keeping just one would be appreciated!

Sorry - don't have just 1 myself - I like the interaction too much... but I was curiuos as to what fish is in your avatar? Is it a Midas Blenny or a Bi-color blenny maybe?

sorry to hear that. I have the blk/white occ, and the false perc, but I've been wanting a Gold Stripe Maroon ever since I first saw one. They're really aggressive, but I think they're fine by themselves. My only problem is I'd have to get rid of my clowns to get one....had the blk/white for a year and a half, so that's not much of an option for me.

Anyways, I think any clown is fine by itself...

isn't that a tailspot blenny? quite the popular avatar lol

I've got just one Ocellaris, he seems happy, but he doesn't talk much so I can't be sure. He's very social with the rest of my fish.

I've always had just one so I can't say if he'd be happier with another of his own kind or not.

 Mine doesn't talk much either. I asked him if it wanted another one, but he just stared at me with a frown on his face!

Yes, that is a tailspot blenny. They have really colorful faces. Sadly, I googled it's lifespan the other day and from what I have read, they don't live past a couple years it appeared. They are kind of funny little fish.

The only reason that I would consider not adding another of the same clowns it to be able to add a little more variety into the 55 gallon.

Funny the tailspot blenny hangs out with the clown, or the clowns when there was two.

Hmmm. I wonder how a black & white would do by itself with a the ocellaris.

Good idea or bad idea?

That would be a fine idea as they're both the same species of clownfish. Just make sure to get the new one considerably smaller than your old one. It will be the male, because I'm sure your lone ocellaris is already female.

I think that you are probably right. The two I had were the same size when I got them and the one that I still have had already grown slightly bigger than the other and was behaving more dominantly over the other one.

I did miss in your post how you said you lost the other one yesterday. Either way its usually best to go smaller.

Nice tailspot btw :D

mine get along great. I'm pretty sure they are a pair, they rarely leave each other's side. The blk/white is the bigger female.

I still wish I'd got a GSM tho...I heard they get so aggressive, they'll start bashing around things in the tank...lol:eek1:

They flip sexes dont they. Mines a Juvie but if I add a black and white also juvie, when they mature they will sex out opposites... right?

or is it too late to get a second?

I have just one maroon. She's mean. Very territorial. Pretty much behaved for about 6 years. She's killed all my corals, and if I have gloves on when I"m in the tank she rams me because she can't bite me. I do a lot less maintenance than I used to. Other than that she's fine alone.

 That's funny, Debi! I heard they bite pretty hard and I've been bit by a small B & W, but the ramming is funny! I heard they were mean!

haha. dang. is it weird that I still want a GSM?

My GSM pair are actually pretty peaceful, the pair never fights, the male has not grown one millimeter in over a year.

I've kept 2 but my female died last year, my male over the course of a few months has doubled in size and made the change to female. She's just fine alone but she def seems happier with another clown in the tank. Last week I added a juvi B&W and she couln't wait for it to even get out of the bag. As soon as I released it the swam right for each other and were inseperable. Sadly though the B&W didn't survive and for a few days after she was very lethargic. Gets along great with my new flasher wrasse and tail-spot blenny but I'm def gonna add another clown to the mix.

So you can add clowns after the fact and they will change sexes. thats what i was looking for and it was good news!!

That's pretty much how I felt. I'm paying the price for it too. If I had a spare tank, I'd give her her own. Still the most personal fish I have.

That's not a bad idea, maybe when I upgrade I'll use the 55 for a pair. I think they're one of the coolest fish out there. Like little pitbulls haha
