Does IceCap no longer exists?

Hello every one,

I am checking with the "sponsors" in here and it seams no one is selling IceCap electronic ballats any more. Did the company go belly up? or anothe company absorbed them?

They went out of business, i believe coralvue will service there stuff and sells very similar ballasts. I think at least one key employee moved to coralvue

They sold to coralvue. The guy responsible for the making of the icecap ballast went to work for them as well. They sell the same ballast under a different name. They will also still do repairs for the old icecaps as well.

It looks like they got blindsided by the recession and had to close the doors.

They weren't really blindsided. They had a pretty bad business model and developed nothing new, ever. They banked on the 430 and 660 keeping them in business forever.

Yet, the lighting market evolved and they didn't. The 430 and 660 ballasts were terrible ballasts for T5s and thus they lost business as people left the VHO behind.

Then, when they finally released a T5 fixture it was a piece of junk. Finally, bring on LEDs and IceCap had no say in that game. They were doomed for failure long ago when they didn't evolve with the hobby. I see a few other companies that are in this category currently and just hope they get their stuff together before they end up like IceCap.

This. They released some piece of junk T5/MH combo as their new illuminations(?) series. The thing was shiPped directly from China, cost $1,000 and had like a 50% failure. Instead of innovating they went straight to rebranding junk at crazy prices.

Great analysis. In any company, you have to be prepared for change, and keeping up with the market. Things change fast. If you are not changing and are standing still, you will get left behind.
