One part of the mantle is not extending. The rest of the mantle has been extending normally.

That is a derasa not a crocea, here is a great clam ID link:

The clam in the background is a crocea, can you post a clearer pic of it as well? It looks a little pinched too.

It looks like PM to me, but to be certain I have some questions.

What fish and inverts do you have?
Do you run carbon?
What are your params?
What do you dose and how do you add it?

how long has it been like that?

i had a ~4" T. derasa which looked like that shortly after i bought it. turned out what i had thought was part of the underside of it's mantle ~a inch below the shell line was a small snail. the snail was benign, just in the process of growing and went between the mantle and shell for shelter during that vulnerable period. the clam ended up with a small V pattern on its outer shell where the snail had been because of the gap due to the mantle not being fully extended at the time.

Thanks Skinz - I knew that......been a long day.

Inverts:
Hermits & Snails (turbo and nassarius)

Water Parameters:
Specific gravity: 1.026 sg
pH: 7.8 at last check
Calcium: 380 at last check
Alkalinity: 7 dKH
Nitrate, Nitrite, Phosphate - 0
Temperature: 78 - 80° F

Fish:
Yellow Tang
Blue Hippo Tang
PBT
Cherub angel
Copperband Butterfly
Pair of Perc Clowns

I do not run carbon and my only dosing is through a KALK reactor for topoff.

Thanks Marc - I'll take a closer look and see if I can see anything.

Is your DKH Low check out the information post (ATTN all current and future clam keepers) at the top will tell you were your specs should be PH should be 8.1-8.2 or so you low on that also. Your angel and copperband watch them close they can turn on clams fast.

I've kept the water at these levels for a few years and my clams have always thrived. This is the first Deresa that I've had so it might not like it. However, I've had the clam for 3 weeks and the mantle has been extending, but now this one section has pulled in like that. So, is this pinched mantle? Should I give the clam a 30 min freshwater dip just to make sure?

I don't think it is pm, don't do the dip just yet. Try to raise your alk level. Also I a suspicious of all your fish. The most being the angel and the butterfly and the least being the clowns.

Can you post pic's of the other clams?

My clam's mantle still seems to be receding. The clam reacts well to light and shadows. My other clam is doing very well. Here are pics of the clam that's having trouble and the clam that is doing well:

Please help......I don't want to lose my clam.

Skinz-
Will do on the deresa, but the crocea has extended it's mantle like that for the 2-1/2 years that I've had it. Are you sure that one has pinched mantle as well.

thanks for the help.
