Does size really matter (90 vs 120)

If the 120 fits than that 8 bulb will be great over it. It will cover every inch of a 90 so you will have a load of light spill. The pump is fine.

You have to let wives know who's boss every now and then LOL.

If you have the space for the 120, get it. I don't think anyone regrets going to big, just going to small.

I seriously doubt that the size difference is going to matter. If I were you I'd get the 120

90 Gallon Aquarium: 48″ x 18″ x 24″ – 48 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ x 25 3/8″

120 Gallon Aquarium: 48″ x 24″ x 24″ – 48 1/2″ x 24 1/2″ x 25 1/2″

Now if you were going from a 4' to a 6' then yes that would be a noticeable difference.

+1

My new tank is 40" long and 28" deep at a height of 24".
For reef tanks more depth is better. My rule of thumb is that the tank should at least be half as deep as it is long. Unfortunately most of the standard tanks here in the US are made for freshwater and usually less deep but taller.

Also I would go as big as space allows.

Your observations mirror mine. 24 inches high is ideal. Depth for aquascaping and creating three dimensional perspectives is critical. Length is the least important dimension for corals, but most important for fish.

BTW: welcome back Steve! Where have you been the last two weeks?

Thanks for noticing. I was in the hospital for the first week getting surgery (probably the most painful of all) and then in intensive care. The last week was recovery of strength and endurance. Now home and spending a bit of time here.
