You lie.

No I dont....I saw a 5+ polyp frag locally of those for $15

It doesnt matter how colorful a zoanthid is its still a zoanthid and zoanthids are cheap

Look Scotch, I don't know you from Adam, but I don't think I quite understand what you mean by that.

Sure, there is quite a bit of price gouging on the internet, but that doesn't mean that one particular zoanthid is the same price as another. Supply and demand dictate their prices.

Also, a zoanthid is a zoanthid, no doubt, but what does that have to do with their price?

To take a guess, I'm betting you mean that because they grow fast and are easy to keep, right? Why should you pay a lot for something that there will be a large supply of?

I'm going to go as far as to say that Zoanthids are as difficult or sometimes even more difficult to keep then SPS corals. There, I said it.

Cheers!;)

SPS are a lot harder than zoanthids overall....Ever heard of RTN and STN? Your whole SPS colony could be lost within a day or 2 for the smallest change in parameters. Ive never even come close to experiencing thios with any zoanthid.

Sure there are some easy SPS that are bomb proof just like zoanthids but once you start getting into wild caught acros and stuff good luck!

Well, I know what you got out of my post.

Listen bud, I totally understand and even agree with your comments. I've been known to have a couple of them new fangled SPS sticks.

Here's a twist for you, have you ever thought that zoanthids can die or recede because of a slight change in parameters?

For instance, when your tanks water doesn't have enough nutrients. Or when you reach critical mass because you (meaning all of us) have absolutely no clue what critical mass is when we add all of these nutrients and don't know when to stop.

Don't be too hasty to judge a coral because you had an easy time with it in the past. There are quite a few well seasoned reefers here that have been perplexed by zoanthid diseases. They're not as hardy or as well understood as you think.

Peace

I KNOW what I have experienced and it is that Zoas are one of the easiest corals to keep....I dont know what you guys are doing wrong but Ive never had any problems wild or aquacultured.

SPS is another story....I dont even want to talk about SPS

I've lost whole colonies of zoas while all the rest of the zoas and corals in my tank were fine. Why? I don't know. And the were zoa's that I had had for over a year.

I do know that the wholesalers are bringing them in and sell them all at the same price. It's US, you and I, that have made the inflated market what it is. Ebay is one of the places that as done this as well.

Will it ever stop and be resonable again? I doubt it. It will be a fad just like all the other corals that have come and gone. The LFS/Internet sellers/Reefers are just trying to make a fast buck while thay can.

Tell me how you can justify a rock at a wholesellers for 10 bucks and that same rock gets broken into about 4 peices and sold for 40 bucks a piece at the LFS. Then you get the reefer who snags them all up, breaks them down into 2 or 3 poylop frags and sells them for 20 bucks a piece. It's just like a drug distribution network, the lower down the line you go, the less pure it is. If we kick the habbit, the prices of the "drug" will go down.

I agree ^^

If people keep paying the prices they are never going to come down....You watch though in 5 years everyone will be selling blue zoas for way cheap...

Heh, you're a blast!

You've been fortunate. It's possible that you're a master zoanthid keeper and didn't know it!:eek1:

Stick around a while. You'll see that this forum has hundreds of experiences and a lot of seasoned reefers that have no clue what they're doing.
(there's your sarcasm back);)

I would be one of those that has no concept other than doing what others do. I let my 55 gallon go 1.5 months without a water change, nitrates out the wazoo, glass covered beyond belief and all of my GSP and buttons survived. I just can't phathom on something so small, size of an eraser head, costing up to $20 a polyp. And at that price just to play it safe, damage from shipping you may need to order upto 10 polyps if counting on 25% loss. Thats $200, plus shipping OUCH!!!! I just wish I could find someone to trade with.. lol

Find a local club. You'd be amazed at what you may find. ;) also keep an eye out for the thermos trades that pop up from time to time in here.

AS for club trades, at christmas, I took in about 20 frags of various zoas I had. I held a raffel and gave them all away to the people present as a xmas gift. Most went home with two frags. Everyone got at least one. ;) Didn't cost them a thing, metallic reds, fire & ice, baby blues, Bluegreens, neon greens. ;)
