Dog for adoption

Just an update on Kova.

She has found her new fur ever home! She is staying as part of our family.;) It has been a rough year to say the least, but we've had a huge break through with Kova. As of this very week she is now besties with my youngest son which makes for a much calmer home for all of us.;)

You can officially call me the dog lady since I am now sharing our home with 5 dogs.LOL
Old man Havic the Staffie mix 9 yrs. old, Little Athena the Pitie mix 3 yrs. old, Kova the Cane Corso approximately 3 years old, Beacon the Beaconator Cane Corso 1 yr. old, and last but not least Halona the Havanese 6 month old..

I do not own these dogs. They own me!:lolspin:

That is pawsome Larry! Congratulations!!!!!!
What a beautiful little girl your Nikki is! Love those pitie mixes, they have so much love to give! I am absolutely sure she will bring your family many years of joy as only a Pitie can!!

I am also really glad that I am able to keep Kova with us! I love this gal so much, and I know she loves me just as much.;)

Kova was already your dog when I met her back in January ;) I suspect that she will do better with you than just about anywhere else you could have placed her.

Thank you for such kind words Larry!

It was a rocky year, but she has settled down nicely. My youngest son gave up one his jobs to return to college to further his education as a medic. He has been home more during the day hours for the past two weeks since he is only working one full time night job, and going to school two days for now. I believe this helped her to understand that he belongs to the pack.;) This Monday she for the first time did not bark at him, and showed him some love. :)

I also agree that she would not have done as well any where else. We took her to New Jersey for a trainer that works with the rescue to evaluate her, and she was a nervous wreck during the car ride. Once we got to his place my girl actually shut down. :( But snapped right back the second we got to our block.;)

Cane Corso become very attached to their person, and do horribly when seperated from their person. I tell you though if I were younger my next dog would have to be another Cane Corso.

Often times, things work out for the best, all on their own.

Just terrific!
I'm on my second rescued Rotty myself, I could be the crazy dog guy if given half a chance as well.

Thank you for adopting! To many animals die each day for no good reason...:sad1:

With me everyone knows my heart has gone to the dogs a long time ago!:wavehand:

Larry, I love love love your signature!

I have never bought a dog. I adopted a red Doberman from North shore almost thirty years ago. He lasted 15 years, which was exceptional for a dog his size (He weighed in at 135 Lbs), that makes perfect sense, as he was an exceptional friend.
Before we lost him, we adopted (also from North Shore), our first Pit mix. Nobody could match my Dobie, but she came close. Great with kids, even other dogs. Not so good with cats. She made 13 years old.
We have a Lab mix now, he was part of a litter that came from a dog that I helped my niece adopt from a LIRA member, 11 or so years ago.
Now, we have the Pittie in the video above, adopted from the TOH animal shelter. They said that she is about 4.5 years, but I don't think she's more than 2, if that.
I have had great luck with adoptions, and the TOH shelter impressed me a lot more than North Shore. Don't get me wrong, adopt from anywhere you can, just be sure to take a look at who's in your local shelter(s) before you consider a pet store. The reward of knowing you saved an animal's life can't be described.

One more thing, While at TOH, we met a female Mastiff named Daisey. She does not have time on her side, shelter calls her 8 y/o, and I think that's a close estimate.
It broke my heart to leave without her. She's kind and loving, and Needs someplace other than a kennel to call home. If someone reading this is capable of providing a loving home for this rather large old girl, please go see Nancy at TOH shelter in Wantaugh. She's not the right dog for every family, but for the right person/family, she has a lot to offer.

Awwwww, I love you both!

I will be posting Daisy on my FB page, and will reach out to the East Coast Mastiff rescue! I wish that I had a bigger place. :(

It seems that all my dogs come with baggage.lol That's okay though since I also come with baggage, and I'm not half bad.;)

There was a time that I was sure my next dog was going to be a Rottie, John. Then I met my first Pit mix. I've always been one to own the larger breeds, and she was kinda small by comparison to my Dobie, but she was full of love, and that "evil pit-bull" enriched our lives tremendously. They really are a misunderstood breed with a bad reputation formulated by woefully misinformed people.
Awilda, you have warmed my heart. If my bringing Daisy to your attention somehow ends in her getting the loving home she deserves, I will be SO relieved. Please keep me posted if someone you know takes her, that would make my day!

Larry, I sent an email to the East Coast Mastiff rescues. They haven't replied to me, but I am hoping that they will look into her, and place her in a foster home at least.;)

Joenike, your fur babies are beautiful! We had 2 rotties that I raised from puppies to the day they crossed Rainbow Bridge at old age.;) Beautiful amazing breed.

Kova has blossomed in to an amazing dog this week! I really do not understand what has happened!:)
Yesterday we took her to Petco to get her yearly boosters!
We've had an amazing morning while at petco having Kova's yearly boosters done.
I took her in the crate so no shenanigans.;) I also had her wear the nylon muzzle just because I wasn't sure how she would take standing in line with strangers, and a bunch of other dogs.
The line is at the back of the store up against their crates, gates so on with aisles coming in to it. And of course the tech walking back & forth brushing pass us, and me with my dumb walker.
She was very good responding to all commands, ignoring everyone, and the dogs as well as the tech. She did growl a tiny bit at the tech when the tech went to pet her, and again at the other tech that put her in a sort of choke hold for their safety. But nothing serious.
Later while I was helping a new American Pit Bull mix owner to choose proper gear that would help her manage her unruly pup better I turned the leash over to hubby. She was okay for a few minutes, and even allowed a kid & one of the store's associates to pet her. I believe the low growls are when she is with me because she sees herself as my guardian, and protector. I say this because she allowed people to pet her while she was with hubby. It is the only conclusion that I can come to. My health has been declining, and I even walk with a walker now. This coming December I will be having a TKR, and I am also working with a neurologist for problems with my back that are causing neuropathy down my leg to where my foot goes all tingly, and numb. I really do believe she feels my pain which to a canine means vulnerability, and therefor she has a highten sense of awareness that is causing her to warn people to get away from me.;)
Anyway after about I guess 10 minutes of me being away from her she began whining for me. Which stopped as soon as I walked towards her.
She is clearly telling me I need to trust her more, and that the growling is all about me. Lol. She has decided she is my protector, and no one is allowed to come near me.

BTW, yesterday was her first time walking along side of my walker, and she did great. Never pulled in any direction; simply walked along side of it.;)

I am so proud of my girl!!!
