Doing the tank move

OK so I am moving from my 24 nanocube in to the 55 frankentank with the super sump.. About to move everything. I am very excited. I am thinking though that I will need some more flow. I have the 2 maxi jet 900s feeding from the sump area so I think I need something on the other side. I was thinking one of those New hydor streams but I am not sure what size. Any suggestions?

Things to keep in mind. I am not doing anything that requires high flow....yet :) The display portion is only 40 inches long so it is not a full 55 length. The mj 900s feed out in to 2 two inch flare nozzles on bottom and 2 hydor FLOs up top. Here is a pic.

I can't believe you're even asking this question Scott!

With all of your modifications to the tank there is only one choice..... a modded maxijet, of course!:D

i thought about that. I am leaning more towards the hydor stream only because it comes out close on price when all is said and done. Also I don't have to trust my DIY skills to get it right. you have seen my mods, they work but they are far from precise.

Well it is moved. The 24 is torn down and cleaned. Here is a quick shot of the tank.

Very blue. Need to adjust my camera. The lights are a bit blue. There is a rattle in the fan I need to check out too. Driving me nuts already. Also having a skimmer is loud lol. The remora is breaking in and I heard they will quiet up eventually. I for sure need some sort of water movement on the right side of the tank. The dust is settling over on that side.

I will make a build thread at some point and post up the link.

If they're new T5 bulbs, that blue will go away in a couple weeks. They just need to burn in a little.

But looks good! I've been enjoying the custom sump.

Yeah, that remora will break in as well.

I think a nano tunze will fit necely in the right corner and you can hide it behind some rocks.... or even a small seio 620 would work well. (it'd even work better on the wallet)

yeah but the tunze are so expensive. I was thinking that i could hide a hydor in the back right mounted off the back side. That way it wouldn't disturb the side view which is what I see from my desk. But if the tunze is smaller than that may be a better option. I am just not sure. But for sure I need something. I stirred up the dust and I can see the flow rolling on the left side but about half way it starts to die off.

I was talking about the 6025, since you're only keeping softies. It runs about $60.

If you were to keep some stonies then the 6045 would be more your style. @ $90

I've seen a couple of the hydor's and they're fairly large.

The seio 620 is small and i just have it sitting on a rock near the bottom of my tank and you can't hardly see it.

i am planning on trying some stonies as I go along. I think I have the lights for it, 5x 54 watts. I have two frags of galaxie that did well inteh nano cube so I hope they will continue to do well.

For the flow I certainly need somethign to move water on that right side. I will take a look at the 6045 that you mentioned. I have got some time to look around. I hope to order the rest of my rock by the end of the week. Probably take me a week or two to get it.

I have about 25-30 pounds right now. I think I am going to get a 25 gallon package from TBS. That is 50 pounds of rock there, plus 25 pounds of sand. I have 35 pounds of sand right now. Total I think it would but me at 85 pounds of rock and about 50-60 pounds of sand. Might be a bit thick but I think I might do a jawfish so the thick sand bed should not be a problem. I may go as far as a 30 gallon package. I will ask Richard for his recommendation.

I still need to figure out a moon light solution. Either to attach it to the light fixture with a DIY kit, or some such. Or take a solution an attach it to the tank rim. Not sure yet. With the center brace it makes it hard attaching to to the rim and hitting all the tank. I also have egg crate over the whole top. The light does not get that hot from what I can tell so far so I might be able to Velcro something to the fixture and run the power along the fixture cables. I think I fixed my fan noise so I will see how hot it gets tomorrow.

yeah solar flare is pricey but looks nice. So far it seems like a decent light. THe first one I got was damaged in shipping. Tom at aquactinics got back to me within 15 minutes on a saturday morning on the forums. I was impressed. The fan was a little noisy but I think that was something rubbing. I took it apart and checked all the fittings. I will see if it is quiet today. The light does not get really hot which is nice. I wish it had moon lights but I will figure something out.

BUlbs are a bit blue but they should even out as it burns in. I will try to get a decent pic later today as it clears up.

so how long can a tank go without lights lol. I got a few corals in there, galaxie, colt, mushrooms and xenia. This fan is really loud and I am sure it can't be good for whatever is wrong with it. Thinking about just running the blues until I can get it straightened out.
