Done with dwarf angels

So I had a fun weekend. Late last week I added a yellow dwarf angel (heraldi). I was looking for a pop of yellow, and decided to go for it. I've kept dwarf angels in the past (coral beauty and flame) with no issues whatsoever. I also had a regal that also did not bother corals (other than zoas). I knew the heraldi was a risk, but was led to believe (LFS and online research) that they were a better bet than a bicolor or lemonpeel.

Nope.

Everything was retracted almost immediately - acans, favia, trumpet, etc. This dude was a coral-slayer. So he had to go. After a few minutes with the old net, I realized this wasn't going to be easy. With no access to trap at the moment, I took the nuclear option and just drained the freaking thing. :blown:

It's only a 42g, so it wasn't too hard. The whole thing maybe took 30 minutes. Corals immediately puffed back up and life is good on the reef.

Not sure how to add that pop of yellow. I have a mystery wrasse, so that might pose a problem for a yellow coris wrasse. I've done the Midas Blenny thing. Oh well... At least my corals are happy again.

I'm thinking about a Potters Angel as some guys I know have had success with many of them over the years of reefing.

Just added 3 ORA golden assessors, 1 male 2 female. Mine are always out and about and are hilarious to watch swim. They swim every which way except the correct way. A lot of people have problems with them hiding non stop but mine don't at all

What fish do you have with them and tank dimensions?

I got a yellow candy Hog fish about two months ago and it's an awesome fish. Very yellow and very active, absolutely will not eat any corals.

Yeah, I think they're all a 'crap-shoot' frankly - having to do as much with the individual as with the species. I've had slightly better luck with dwarf angels in high activity tanks. Too busy eyeballing the tangs to go about nipping. But even that's prone to failure.

I'll second the yellow clown goby. Mine has added exactly the yellow pop I wanted. Even more than I expected. It's the same neon yellow as a yellow tang, just 1/20th the size

Love the hogfish! I've had the yellow candy hog in the past. Awesome fish. I'd get another one, but I've got a candy-can hog in the tank now. My LFS is holding a nice Midas Blenny for me.

The Midas blenny is an awesome fish! Sadly mine has been bluish color for about two months. I did some rescaping of my tank and turned his huge rock house around 180 degrees and he was distraught trying to get in the rock where the opening was ever since he was put in the tank. He's gotten over it and figured it out where the hole is but man he really needs to change back to yellow. It's just weird that he did that.

Would a Midas blenny and a Starry blenny be an issue in the same tank? Thinking of getting a Midas with how many people vouch for them being awesome, but currently got a starry in my 65.

based on my personal experience with two in my 120 I don't think so. Mine don't even look at each other wrong. I have a Midas and a lawn mower. I think as long as they're different colored blennies you're ok. Only time there would be any issue is if they decided they wanted the same hole as a home. Plenty of live rock should eliminate that. Mine swim together. Perch on same ledges. No fighting, chasing, or anything. Lawnmower was 1 month established prior to Midas.
