Doni Marie clown's

I know there's got to be a few of you who ordered from her before. I'd like to know, overall how was the experience? Would you recommend her again?

I am not aware of any other place that sells grade "B" Picasso's for $50 a piece.

I have read on another forum or two, that the fish are "tiny" and can be some-what difficult to keep for an inexperienced person. Well, I mean I've never tried to raise 1.25" "fry" before. Any advice on "raising" such small fish?

All I have in the tank is a Koralia Nano powerhead, and the standard return nozzle.

Was thinking of selling my ORA extreme misbar locally, and then buying a single grade "B" Picasso.

I think Doni's fish are second to none. She does a great job and has very healthy / beautiful fish.

Clowns as small as that can be a challenge in a reef. Be prepared to keep them segregated in a breeding net or similar device. They may be fine in a 14g depending on what stock you currently have.

I'm not a big fan of fish being sold real small. 1 1/4" isn't bad though.

I have some fish from her that are small, but very healthy. I am keeping them in my fuge until I feel they are strong/big enough to deal with the flow of the main tank.

doni's clowns are awesome. i got a set of A's and a pair of C's. the A's were about 3/4" - 1" and the C's were 1" - 1 1/2". i have a maxi jet 1200 and they did fine in my tank. the maxi jet 1200's flow is pretty strong (stronger than a koralia 1) cuzz it comes out from a narrow hole but was no problem to the clowns. i didnt even qt them and i have had a problem yet. would recommend her to everyone.

Blazedapurp - Not to be overly negative, but you really should reconsider mixing two pairs of clowns in that 55 gallon. At some point, the C's are likely to get tired of the A's and then you're going to have either really beaten up or dead A's. Don't become defensive and think that your set up is different. It's a matter of experience. Clown fish can live for 20-30 years. A few months of them living with each other does not mean long term success. Intolerance by the dominant pair is the kind of thing that can happen literally overnight. Pick the pair that you want to keep long term and sell the others.

I agree, 2nd to none.
Read her site, it's pretty informative, and and tells how she goes through great measures to pretty much gaurantee health.
Service just couldn't be better.
Casually made comment on interest late one afternoon, that night they were bagged/shipped about 10pm, had them on my porch 10am next morn.
My pair of A's are stunning specimens.
Small, as most are(1-1.25") but very hearty.
Just need to safety any overflows or such that they will fit in.
Would not anywhere near call them "fry"
Give the site a good read.

I`m lucky enough to know Doni and frequent her house often as well as help with building some of her new mega stands and tank set ups. People have mentioned the clowns are small but I can assure you that she sends out only healthy fish. Between the required equipment and even sending some fish out to a specialist to have their health verified she takes great care in keeping them healthy. Plus getting to see a quick video of the actual fish you are getting is a nice touch you dont see very often.
I`m currently waiting to clear a older pair of Black Percs from my 210g and will be getting some of her grade Bs in the near future to replace them.
Its really interesting to see all the babies from just hatched to grown out when I`m there. Its even tougher not coming home with a fish or a pair or two each time also

are they young or just never showed dark coloration?

They are still pretty young, just got these a couple months ago.
And agree, these aren't any smaller than small male clowns you'd see at any LFS.

Thanks for your post. :)

I got a pair of A's from her in Feb and they are doing great, the communication was great, the shipment was on time and the fish were very healthy.

I would not hesitate to buy from her...In fact I recommended two other refers to buy from her and they have been very pleased

I just bought a pair of "B"s and am very happy with them. My only problem is they are only about 3/4 of an inch; that's small. Its been my experience that the mortality rate of raising a juvenile to adulthood in animals if rather high. Raising these small fry to adulthood is going to be a real commitment. For example, I had difficulty in getting one to eat even though I went out and bought the exact food that Doni has on her web site. One of the small fry did not swim well enough to get enough food in the aquarium. So I took a 2 inch Plexiglas tube that was 20 inches long, slipped it over the small fry before feeding and then pour Doni's "soup" in the tube. Now the fry was surrounded by food and could catch and eat it. Sooner or later this fish will grow large enough to get its food without such tricks but this is the type of problem you have with juveniles. And Doni's fish are very, very small juveniles.

Yes, they are small. I got a set last week and decided to keep them in my refugium so they wouldn't have any competition for food. I guess I'll just leave them there until I think they're ready to fend for themselves in the main tank. Has anybody had an issue with too much flow in their tank when keeping these fish when they are small?
