They really are not picasso, perhpas picasso parents yes, but themselves do not

They have never bred (I think that's the right term). So they can't be parents, no?

Would them being from ORA mean they look different than "normal" Picasso's?

Hmm... thanks. I'd either like someone with a reputation of "clown king" to distinguish my pair, or enough of the normal guys, and I'll ask for a refund.

For me, it's not looking good.
I might have missed it, but did you buy your clowns as a grade "A" or grade "B"? Personally, I think that they are very good looking.

I think he means they could carry the picasso trait even though they don't have a high % of a picasso look.

My smaller one is more of a misbar than a picasso. He still looks cool though  I think so. He has more black than the bigger one. I really like the contrast.

Hey didn't say. And I forgot to ask. However he had a few other ORA fish.

i wrote that wrong what i meant perhaps they are offspring from picasso parents.

The second question is harder to answer, but i can tell you, your fish do not look picasso just because they are from ORA, they simply do not show major characteristics of picassos

So it's time to ask for a refund? Or proof of purchase?

Could you list them??

This is the original picture.

Maybe I was fooled/uneducated, but the guy knows his stuff, so I trusted him.

My fault for NOT knowing or his for selling something it's not?

If the white bars are touching on at least 1 side of each fish, I'd call them a grade B.

This bar? I tried my best....

Looks pretty close. Hard to see b/c it's blurry. Can you put a sport shot mode on your camera and try to get pics of them in your tank? I have a basic Kodak point and shoot camera, but I found out after I bought my clowns that it's easier to get a decent shot using the sport or setting for moving objects. Darn things just don't stay still when I want a picture.

So according to Doni's site, which is my little clown? A grade B or a misbar? what's the difference between a misbar and Grade B that doesn't have stripes touching? Maybe misbars are stripes that don't come together around the fish but that have a break??

Nice fish that's what they are. Whatever they are when you ordered them, that's what they are.

Want true Picasso's, go with Doni.

Thanks :) I just hope the bigger one develops black areas. What I like is the contrast the black and white provide.

I have been thinking about getting a pair for sometime now...I think I waited to long, as I feel her grading scale has gone down hill. What was once a B grade clown is now an A grade clown..

I'm sure I will pickup a pair...but now what I want is considered a snowcasso...when at one time it was a grade A

Economy. How many people are in the market for $200 fish? ;)

However if the thing about her scaling/quality is dropping, it's either time to order now, or when the economy is better.

I asked Doni, to look over this thread, primarily my fish, and she replied:

"Your photos show two very healthy fish. Congrats! Both appear to have Picasso markings in the B or C range (my rating scale).

Grading a Picasso's pattern is sometimes very tricky. Because there are no two patterns exactly alike, a few basic guidelines are needed; thus my grading scale of C, B, A, and Snowcassos. There are, of course, those patterns that fall on the borderline between two different grades...

Alleviating all doubt of what each Picasso looks like is very important to customer satisfaction. This is why I will use videos that show off both sides of the fish at my online store.

I hope this helps!

Doni Marie
