Don't forget to Bow down.

Apparently I forgot to bow down to the reef gods this week. If I have angered them in some way I appolagize. There are people on here that think that they are the know all of reef aquariums. I will admit that 90 percent of people on here are smarter about most things than I am however these boards were set up to help people not to belittle or to judge people. If your gonna judge people then you should absolutely have your facts straight. Just because you think you are the smartest person on earth about something does not give you the right to jump to conclusions and then belittle me for choices that I have made. I have made mistakes in the past and will again in the future(my guess is that the people who are the smartest have made more than anyone, thats part of how you get to be smart). I use to think that this forum was the best thing ever and that I could have never been able to do my first saltwater tank without some of the advice I have gotten here over the years but that is not what is happening anymore.

FOR THE RECORD, I WAS NOT ORDERING 100 BLUE LEG CRABS, I JUST THOUGHT THAT 100 WAS A GREAT DEAL FOR $19.99. I KNOW OTHER PEOPLE THAT COULD USE THEM TOO. I NEVER SAID I HAD LEFTOVER FOOD ON MY SAND, I JUST ASSUME MY FISH COULD NOT EAT IT ALL. I AM REALLY ANGRY AT THE MOMENT, NOT BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT SOMEONE ON HERE IS TALKING TO ME LIKE I AM THEIR 7 YEAR OLD SON BUT BECAUSE I HAVE ENJOYED THIS FORUM OVER THE YEARS AND NOW I FEEL LIKE I JUST DON'T WANT TO CLICK ON THE UPSTATE REEF FORUM ANYMORE. I REFUSE TO LEARN HOW TO TAKE SOMEONE BEING A** ON HERE JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPER SMART ON REEF TANKS AND OBVIOUSLY HAVE TO WORK ON THEIR PEOPLE SKILLS. YES I KNOW I HAVE ALLOT TO LEARN ON REEF SETUPS BUT I ALSO HAVE SO MUCH MORE TO MY LIFE THAN THIS, I CAN ONLY LEARN JUST SO MUCH EVERYDAY. BTW, THIS IS A HOBBY NOT A LIFESTYLE. GOOD LUCK TO ANY PEOPLE ASKING FOR ADVICE ON HERE. MAYBE THIS WILL GET ME KICKED OFF, MAYBE NOT, WHO KNOWS.

Great suggestion. Unexplained things happen in my system all the time. It's probably wise to not only pay adequate homage to the reef gods, but to also leave acceptable offerings to the gremlins and gnomes that do things like turn off my calcium dosing timer or to pull my auto top off hose out of my sump.

I understand that you're frustrated, but please take it all in stride. The thread sounded like you were going to order an insane number of inverts and people had a little fun with it. In the end, your thread also generated some good advice for multiple people.

There are a few people on here that tend to tell people instead of offer advice in a polite way. Trust me there are a few times I would like to kick people too. Just remember this is a large forum with many different people and everyone act differently. Also its easy to say the wrong thing on a forum don't take it personally just ignore the comments and read what people post that's constructive.

You know who you are. You've helped me a lot with things I knew little to nothing about!

A big "thank you" from me!

Hahaha, I feel your pain man. I don't post much because of a few people on here think its ok to tell you that something you did is wrong and that the way they do it is right. There are many approaches to this hobby and to some of us it is just that, a hobby, not a life consuming project. Some people don’t stop and think before they type and don’t realize they look like a horse's _____. Those same people make mistakes as well and break some rules that most would not, but justify it because it is working in their tank. There are many great people here that offer sound and solid advice. Try not to get frustrated with the few socially awkward individuals. Like I said the majority are great people offering great help. Continue to post and just ignore the few that you find annoying.

somebody had to suggest a different approach. There shouldn't be uneaten food laying around the bottom of the aquarium. Nobody is angry. I'm sorry if anyone's feelings were hurt. Re-read that thread. Sheesh!

Yea it's pretty bad went you have to think twice before posting something and re-reading it over and over to be sure you worded everything just right doted the I's crossed the T's and most of all that you didn't leave room for needling. And after all that just decide well I guess I'll just try to figure it out myself instead of posting it.

*Before Thought* I have no idea what this is about, but I'm here to help! :spin3:

Connotation.... One of the hardest things to work with in the online world. Always has, always will.

Many of us started chatting online when we were 12 and have learned how to make things "sound" or "look" ok. (proper placement of "...." or "smiley faces" "ROFL, LMFAO, LMFAOWEAB(laughing my freaky arse off while eat a burrito)"...etc. etc. We learned quick when we were young because if things were taken wrong there were physical fights, crying, name calling, and bullying:blown:. Those who weren't "taught" to word things without ACCIDENTLY sounding sarcastic just get thrown into the "A...hole" world. Which, some deserve to be there.(I'm on dozens of forums and this is by far the nicest group of people I have ever met). Most of them don't even know and don't even mean to do it, just sort of how it is.

I am constantly finding myself rewording my thoughts and how it reads. I can be a butthead too with no trouble at all. I just try to go back and fix it to make it seem like I'm talking with a smile.

I think everyone here is pretty cool. Some, more than others, can be a quite the pain in your side. I just say it's tough love..haha. I used to get ticked off too at people...yes I"ll say it....Gary was one of them! :deadhorse: *I like you now Gary, I know you are constantly looking for approval:thumbsup:* But then it kicked in, this hobby can not have everyone being babied into it. You either jump in with gunz a 'blazin:uzi: and a full commitment or simply don't waste your time and money. It will only hurt yourself.

Glad to see you vent and I hope all is resolved.

*End Disclaimer*
I chose to use all the smileys just to prove a point. If done well and dramatically, you can make people feel comfortable while reading something.

Cheers Everyone!!:beer::ape:

Take it in stride. Everything is a learning experience. True, some people's "advice" can be quite demeaning. I too hold back questions in fear of being ridiculed. But I've also gotten great advice and learned a lot. I don't wish ill will on anybody, but for all of the "pros" out there, just remember you were once in our position and didn't get to where you're at now without the help of others. And if you did go it alone, I feel bad for your wallets through all of the experiments and trials that didn't work out.

Yeah, It was kinda blunt and funny. Sometimes you need it. Every time I am about to buy that dragon wrasse at the LFS, someone reminds me why it is a bad it.

It was the WAY it was suggested peeps are having trouble with, I believe.
seriously?
People are having trouble with the WAY it was SUGGESTED?

I also noticed that some people offered NO SUGGESTIONS and only chimed in to stir the pot.
Good thing you folks weren't around when this forum first started up. There used to be some seriously good debates. This is a bunch of horsefeathers.

Yea...seriously Gary. ;)

IMO if you're original post had been more like your latter post in that thread none of this would have happened!

that's the beauty of threads. If you don't have time to post all of your thoughts at once (in one single post) you can add the rest of them at a later point in time.

Now none of this would've happened if I'd gotten a hamster for the 75 instead some liverock and I'm sure as heck not gonna start slackin' now!

I hate to say this but I agree with justin. Sometimes we need to stop and think before we type. I have posted for help a few times lately and i get a response like no or thats not a good idea. i think in this type of forum we need to back up things we say with facts as gary always does it just few threads later haha. I think everyone is getting little too upset I think Gary just types on his new iphone fast then when he gets to his computer he types more haha. Another thing we all need to be a little careful jumping on people when we dont like what they say there are a ton of people myself included and possibly leading the pack that say things they shouldn't but look at it this way how many people that had tons of knowledge dont post in this forum anymore ALOTT lets not push people away

There is a definite trend for those "in the know" to keep to themselves and not give free advice here or anywhere for that matter.

Look at it this way: I might have saved somebody some money on crabs, snails and other cleanup crew animals. There's no reason to have uneaten food on the bottom of a reef aquarium.
Somebody had to say it.

Like the Human Torch once said, "I'm outta here, Ben".... FLAME ON!
