Don't throw out that brown Acro.....

DID I SOUNDS SMRT??
Well guys,

I purchased a beautiful wild colony proably 4 years ago. I managed to keep it for probably 6 months until a tank catastrophe happend causing /STN/RTN.

I managed to save just he base of it really. Well for almost 4 years it sat there being nothing but a brown and green crappy blob.

Well my tank probably is at its healthiest point right now so Im sure that helped bring it back from the dead. It now seems like this dud is turning into a stud.

You have no idea how many times I debated throwing this thing in the garbage...so glad I didnt now.

That is nice! Makes me feel better that a great tank like yours has stallers doing nothing too! No offense, lol.

Wow, I must say it's turning into a thing of beauty. Whats the purple sps just to the right of it?

Thanks ....bali tricolor

WHAT...TAKE THAT BACK NOWWWW!

haha.....this tank has treated me very well (upgraded 1.5yrs ago) but I have had my ups and downs over the years.

Just a tip but sometimes if you have a coral go dormant you can snip a branch or two to get the growth started again.

Yeah, I've thought of clipping the tip but the two I have are still putting out a base so I'm trying to be patient:rollface:

very nice, is that aquadelight? i had same problem many months later my aqua delight came back and grew rapidly

Yep, kicks the whole cellular division back into action.

Looks like somebody had a pearlberry that brown out and you get it to look great!

nope not a pearlberry either...I have one of those and the colors are similar so far but this peice is turning out brighter....and definately is a different species.

I frequently seek out brown sps, it is more fun when they do decide to change color. Nice piece!

Looks amazing...I recently acquired a browned acro from another member. I'm going to try and nurse it back to health. Hopefully it will gain it's color back much like yours did. Congrats and great job.

In the second pic some of the branches on the left side have a "grafted" look about them. Is this just an artifact of the camera or it that color in the coral? It looks really nice if it has that grafted glowing green look to it. Nice color up!

Yep that picture is acurate...there is some green florescent pigment swirled in.

I actively seek out the browned out/9.99 frag rack in our local shops. I've gotten some really nice pieces off those racks. I too have a survivor in my tank. I got a Tyree Flower Petal monti about 14 months ago and it immediately began to fail and receded to nothing. The little rock was overgrown with algae but about 6 months ago I saw a tiny spot of green shining through and now it's the size of a silver dollar, green with baby blue polyps. I've also got what looks like some sort of echinata that's starting to take off that was given to me as a rock with a few odd colored shapes with some polyps growing out of it. It will be interesting to see what it turns into. Believe me, I never take anything out of my tank. I figure that at the worst it will turn into live rock.

Mike
