Dose or ca reactor?

I want to get your guys 2cnts on what has worked out better for you guys? Im getting tired of manual dosing and need more consistent perams.
So im still debating on a calcium reactor or dosing pump what's easier and of course cheeper. After all some of us have a budget lol.
There will be no apex or controller yet maybe in a few months so something to keep in mind.

How big is the tank? Since you don't have a controller, you'd probably have to go with a stand alone doser of some sort and if you went with a CaRx, you'd have to have some way to monitor the pH inside the reactor. I just recently switched to a CaRx and am super happy about it. My tank is doing well and growth has been phenomenal.

Hi so cal reefers. I would like to get a ca reactor too but not sure which one to get. I saw a members tank the other day and was really impressed with his set up and would like to replicate it. I know it was an AquaMaxx ca reactor but not sure which model. I am not using a controller at the moment but maybe sometime in the future I’ll get one.
Joesig, let’s get a ca reactor on our tanks!

GEO's seem well loved. I know the cheaper CAL reactors dont get much love..

Definitly depends on the tank size. I dose the DIY Randy's formula, which is very cheap. But im now having to use 5 gallon buckets as my dosing is starting to use a lot. In otherwords im on the verge of looking into a CA reactor. But dont want to put down the cost.

I'm using an aquamaxx CaRx right now and really like it. I also like that there's a little leeway with the foot print.

Since you don't have a controller, already have 2 part solutions and you're in a budget right now... i would go with dosing pumps. You can buy a used BM doser for less than $100 if you get lucky. Also, since you're manually dosing now, you already know how much 2 part your tank consumes so setting up the doser will be super easy.

There is a lot of initial cost and adjustments involved with setting up a CaRx but it is "œless work" once it is dialed in.

Thats what i thought I figure a carx would be around 1k by the time i get the reactor controller the regulator the valves at least tank and gas i get for free lol. But i like the idea for less work.

How has the growth been for you guys who are dosing and what pumps do you recommend.
Looking at 2-3 pump setups

Both methods can work well if properly set up. Calcium reactors use a fair bit of electricity to run as they run 24/7, the initial cost is high and you really need a PH probe for the reactor & controller to keep it running optimally. Ca reactors tend to drive the PH down.
Dosing is lower initial cost, is easly adjusted as you system changes, you can dose much more then just ALK & Ca, the cost of suplements can vary drasticly depending on what you use. Ready made mixes can add up quickly and are expensive to ship for mostly water. Or you can make your own using Randy's 2 part recipe. I have 50 pound buckets of calcium cloride for only $40, which will make enough to last most people several years. Large bags of Baking baking soda are available cheap at Costco and other places.
Get good dosing pumps for reliability. If your on a real budget, I have used aqua lifter pumps controled by a Neptune controller in the past. Older controllers can be purchased cheap. You don't need fancy dosing containers, if your on a tight budget. Plastic soda bottles or 5 gallon water jugs can be used depending on the size of your system.
I have used both methods over the years, as well as dosed Kalk. What ever method you use, you need to measure your parameters often until you get it dialed in. For calcium reactor you must bring your levels up and in balance first. Otherwise it is much harder to get working properly and impossible to balance. This is also a good idea if your dosing as well.

On my 300 gallon I dose because I like the control it gives me and the consistency.: I cirrently dose ALK, Ca, Mag, Stountium, Potassium, Viniger & Iron. Not all are automatically dosed yet. I prefer the control and reliability of my Neptune controllers over the dosing pumps with built in controllers that I have tried.

It's just a tube that holds carbonated sea water in contact with dead coral skeletons and melts the skeletons to put calcium back in the water it's not really complicated and don't overthink it

Carx for me it's easily set and forget long as you check for all parameters. Plus I'm lazy to keep mixing my alk, calc and mag.

I was leaning more towards the pumps then the carx. Toward the end of the year it gets tight with all the birthdays car registrations holidays and what not. But i guess if i dont like the dosing pumps i can go creactor in jan
