Dosing Beer ?!?..better yet, share a beer with your tank.

First, this thread is making me thirsty...think I'll dose my self a little in a minute:beer:

I do think you used a dosing accepted norm as a nutrient export as a basis for your actions and I commend your steps already taken as a potential pioneer as you never know. You gave it a try and may or may not see results. I think at times we need to put the "reef geek" card away and give an idea a go.

On the other hand, if something had gone wrong with your anecdotal testing I'm sure you would've posted a "what not to do" thread as well.

Tagging on as this is going to be a fun thread:lol2:

My lighting is 3 400W Radium/Luminarc reflectors on a light mover. I have blue LED light strips for night viewing. Just gave the tank another swig tonight from my Heineken.

Also took a Dremel to the big Tricolor table a few days ago. At 18" across, he was starting to shade his neighbors. It was tough cutting and chipping through 1" thick table but had to be done. Now I have to find a way to get rid of these big chunks...LOL.
I'll take a chuck after all we are neighbors:wavehand:

Ill take any chunks that you dont want! Dang tabling corals getting to big! Send em my way. I'll make sure to take care of them. = )

As a homebrewer I am interested in what might be the "best" qualities for a reef brew. For example I brew a scottish '60 that is low alchcol and almost no hops. Brewing ones own beer gives the opertunity to tune to your own taste, but I guess it would also be possible to tune a beer to the advantage of the reef or better yet spilt the difference and make all the animals happy:)

Whipit....if you are close, PM me and stop by. I live at the corner of Georgia and Norbeck.

In the spirit of this thread, I'll trade a mini-colony of the thick branching tri-color for a 12-pk of beer (Heineken/Corona/Corona Light) to any local reefers. This is likely the oldest SPS in my tank and the original wild colony goes back about 10 years with my first tank. Extremely hardy coral.

Nice thread aurora, I think your tank is living proof that there are many avenues to choose in this endless hobby... Many people flamed on vodka several years ago when introduced, only for this to become a standard for many succesful reefers out there. Congrats, look forward to more updates in the future.
Thanks,

something has to be said for someone having the cojones to dose an unknown into a tank that nice. I have to admit that the man must be in tune to his tank to have success like that. Looking forward to some more useful discussion on this topic...

Well....the Mrs bought me a case of Dos Equis so now I'm sharing that with the tank...must be sale or something. Up to now, tank's only been getting Heineken or Corona. For the reef geeks out there, I'm dosing about 2 oz (or 60cc) of beer about every other day into a 400G system. I figured this out very scientifically. It took me 6 swig to finish my 12 oz beer bottle, so I must be dosing 2 oz each time. I have my beer 'frig in the basement near the tank. So when I grab a beer from the 'frig, I pop the cap, take swig and also give the tank one also on the way by it.

You gave me the guts, or stupidity, to put 10 drops of captain morgan into my 34g Solana. Great results <-- The next morning the skimmer was going crazy with gunk and the LPS, and SPS polyps have never been as extended as they are right now.

Interesting does it have to be rum or can it be Jack Daniels?
our drink of choice:)

Well, on a professional scientific theory.. I'd say Rum is better because it's from the Caribbean, and there are reefs in the Caribbean.. Jack Daniel's is a whiskey which is made in country areas. So, whiskey may be good if you have cow-fish ? That's just my professional opinion.

If you were to stay with a beer that is being made to the specs of the german purity law you would know exactly what is going into your tank; water, hops, barley, and yeast. There are only a few beer companies still practicing these requirements but i do believe that Heineken is one of them. So for experimental purpose try just using Heineken... mabe you can get a few more people interested in "The Drunk Tank" <----- i want a drunk tank :)

Wow. I googled searched for "beer in reef tank" because I was drinking an Sam Adams Octoberfest and I put it on top of my canopy just so I could grab something real quick. I looked over and the thing was foaming over and a little but got into my 65 gallon reef. I was panicking and was ready to do a 50 percent WC or something. So do I really have nothing to worry about?

yeah you should donate all your sps to me then drink another beer, relax unless it was one of those 64 ounce beers then, dang . u will be fine, foam is okay dry wall powder not to good but my fish look okay after a week.
