I am looking into buying a dosing pump. what brand does everyone use or recommend . I don't need top of the line but i also don't want the cheapest either. are the all in one units better than a single pump hooked to a digital timer or controller?

Look on BRS. I got their dosing kit setup, IMO reasonably priced. I do not have a controller so I use a couple light timers for the pumps

Here is a very high quality dosing pump (medical grade) at a great price on ebay. I have one on both of my systems now for over a year. They can dose even small amounts spread out evenly over 24 hours. They can also be fitted with a battery backup for just $15 by the seller. I got a 3rd to have as a back up on the shelf when I saw a true auction for it and got it for under $40. But even at full retail of $175 (roughly) they are really good quality dosers. Especially if you are just doing Ca & alk.

I use the BRS pumps on both of my systems. The 120 uses the "Drew's Dosers" and seem to be pretty accurate at the advertised 1.6ml/min. The less expensive standard dosing pumps, rated for 1.1ml/min, actually test out to ~1.9ml/min but otherwise work every bit as well.

The differences don't really make any difference, because you need to do a test run on them anyway to get their actual specs.
