dosing vinegar with vit C

I am currently dosing Iherb Vitamin C and am keeping it at around 10-15ppm. I just bumped it up to 20ppm today because it doesn't seem to be bring down my phosphates. I want to continue dosing vitamin c because of the beneficial effect it has on corals with color and growth.

I am thinking of now dosing vinegar but starting out low and raising it slow until my phosphates drop. Would it be a good idea to dose both Vitamin C and vinegar at the same or would I need to stop Vit C dosing?

They are both forms of carbon dosing. If you are adding vinegar because you need more carbon, I don't think it would make sense to lower the Vitamin C. Although I'm interested in others' input since I'm dosing Vinegar and was thinking of switching at least partially to Vitamin C, but haven't seen many others talking about it.

What is your nitrate measuring? If there's no nitrate left, more carbon won't help.

My nitrates are around 5ppm. I wanted to do this more for phosphates. I know vinegar does both nitrates and phosphates.

I don't think therir is a plausible rason to believe Vitamin C has any postive effect on color and growth beyond it's incidental value as a carbon source. Some have problems with it vs soluble organics like vodka and vinegar.
Having said that there is no reason to not dose other organic sources along with it . Bear in mind that vitamin C is a solid ;so, 1 gram of it is equivalent to about 20ml of standard 5% vinegar which is 95% water.

Dosing both likely is okay, but I'd keep a close eye on the corals for a while. Carbon dosing can cause problems.

I was planning on starting slow. 8ml per 25gallons for 1 week and then doubling every week until phosphates start to drop.

I don't know. There might be some article around somewhere. I probably would dose some other form of carbon, if I wanted some nutrient control, so I haven't kept track of vitamin C dosing.

What test kit are you using to determine that your Vitamin C is "around 10 - 15 ppm" and then at 20 ppm?

Sometimes, carbon dosing seems to encourage cyanobacterial blooms. In other cases, people report problems with coals bleaching or dying.

Just following the dosing instructions given in the table to maintain it at a certain ppm.

To clarify: If you are following the table I found with Google, you are dosing XX ppm _per day_. There is no way to know how much is _maintained_ in the system. You're not dosing to maintain a value, you're dosing to "feed" a certain amount per day. I think this is where there is some confusion. HTH

So what kinds of problems come from dosing carbon? Besides I hear it might bring on cyano outbreak

IME, in addition to cyanobacteria ,sometimes at start up and bleaching ,perhaps due to clearer water and consequent additional light intensity or a rapid drop in nutrients, coral recession of certain species may occur when dosing monomers or monomer producing organics like carbohydrates, sugar and vitamin C occurs. Bacterial blooms which can deplete oxygen may also be an issue if overdosing occurs. A build up of total organic carbon can be harmful too if not well managed with a good skimmer and perhaps some granulated activated carbon.
