Doug's 300DD Starphire Reef Build

will the 250W's be enough with the depth of these tanks? I am in the process of planning an upgrade to the 300g myself and it would be so much better in regards to the electric bill if I could use 250W instead of 400W. Have you seen any SPS dominated tanks using the 250W over one of the DD's?

vetdog, Yes I have seen other SPS dominated tanks using 250 watt on the DD. I have been following other threads with the same 300DD builds and most are running 250 watt. I will be running the Lumenmax Elite reflectors and from what I have seen on the depth of these tanks this is sufficient lighting for sps. I just can't imagine 1200 watts of lighting v 750watts. Like you say it would be much better on the electric bill to run the lower watts.
Other 300DD owners might pipe in on this one.

And my 100 gallon acrylic sump/Refugium. 48"x30"x17"

Thanks Greg, I appreciate that. I will give you a call when it comes to the tank being moved inside the house. It will I am sure take about 6 strong backs.

Nice looking Tank! I wish I knew about these when I started my 180 last year.. Best wishes with it.

Got it. I am standing back admiring our new tank and taking a pic for the scrap book.. Thanks to Derik at Tanks A lot for all the work ordering the custom tank. Stage 2 now the work begins.

was this a custom order or does marineland ask you when you buy it how you want it? Also if it is a custom order was the surcharges?

Yes, custom. They have there standard tanks with standard overflows. They will ask what specifics you want and you can change overflow positioning or add acrylic, add closed loop, Starphire glass, eurobracing. And the customs will cost a bit more.

Very nice tank. I'm going to be getting back in the hobby shortly and I'll be going with one of these deep tanks for sure. Good luck with the build.

Awesome! I didn't know Marineland made custom tanks/overflows!

Yes, Marineland will make just about any tank build you want. One of the main reasons I wanted the custom is because I wanted enough return water volume. Most have complained about the cornerflo boxes not being large enough to handle their desired return. Then they modify them after the fact. And also I didn't want crossbracing. I preferred the eurobracing. Of course I believe if one is going to go custom might as well go with the Starphire glass.

The normal build time for a custom tank is 2-4 weeks.
