Doug's 300DD Starphire Reef Build

From what I was told a few months ago...Marineland wil no longer take custom orders on DD tanks. I wanted them to drill larger (1 1/2") drains in the overflows, IMO, two 1" drains is not enough.

Use all four holes as drains, that is what I did.

That unfortunate as all (upgrading) hobbyist will be looking for not just starphire and debth; but no cornerflo/megaflow, and most important for me no plastic bracing. I've experienced plastic bracing snap on my old 55 gallon after filling it with water (The glass bowed 1'' on each side).:headwally: Imagine the pressure on a tank wider!

I like doug's aquarium because of it's eurobracing - which would look amazing with 3 400 watt pendants like these.

Also, does anyone know if marineland makes these tank w/o the 2 cornerflow box? I ask because I plan on silicone this overflow box (2,400GPH, 18.25"Long x 3.75"D x 5''Tall) dead center. Just have to drill one drain on the back and use a few sea-swirls for the return (which I don't need plumbed from the corner flow box provided). This overflow box will take up very little space as well as having the ability to handle more flow. Also, I use tunze wavebox and this overflow box won't be effected by the wave action; the corner flo ones would be a loud and annoying.

Top that off with some cool LED actinic strips, custom made stand, and overhangs/ island = my dream tank:beer:

Thanks for the compliments on our build. I do like the eurobracing and don't care for the plastic cross bracing. I don't know if Marineland make the 300DD without the corner overflow. I bet those 400w would be great but I think I will hang with my 250w. Chiller will be running enough this summer.
