Dr. Ireef's "Let's Get Our Bubbles Back!" Campaign.

In my seventy gallon I have 10 BTAS, my lighting is 2x150 watt 14,000k bulbs. I run carbon constantly and I do not spot feed anymore. The tank is a nem species only tank. I do feed Cyclop-eeze and Roti-feast daily. Now the kicker is that 4 of the 10 nems have kept their bubbles, and the other 6 have lost them but are growing well, go figure.FWIW

SEAFLOWERS- Are the 4 anemones that have bubbles in the same ide of the tank under the same conditions?, or all of them are all over the tank?

I currently have a 100 gallon tank that is plumbed to a 20 long carpet tank and a 20 gallon refugium. I run a single 250 10,000k mh bulb on my 100 gallon. I have 4 BTA's in my 100 gallon and some of the BTA's are near the light and the other is on the very bottom. The anemones closest to the light do not have bubbles while the one on the very bottom has bubbles. I also run carbon in the system.

Ok, this is where we stand so far:

Im 80% sure the tips are due to lighting. In My f1sh's case..he has 260w PCs and Go29 has T5's..NOT HALIDES like most of us. Their parameters seem in check, nothing out of the ordinary, but both run carbon (not saying thats the secret, but enough to notice). They feed their anemones regularly. They both have their anemones in med. to strong flow..I dont think position has anything to do..My F1sh has his anemone in the middle while GO29's is close to the bottom. This is way too soon to call it done..so hopefully more people with bubble tips will share stats.

My RBTA has bubbles with pointy tips. Does that count? Anyways, I do not run carbon. It is directly under a 250DE PFO with 14K phoenix. Med flow. Fed about once a week. Does host a pair of ocellaris.

No, they are all over the tank.

Invariably, all the BTAs that I have kept have lost their tips.

However, in one 75 gal set up i had, they were under double 150w halides - no bubbles. I added an 80w T5 tube giving out actinic light/blue and bubbles came back.

Increased wattage or spectrum?? - who knows!

VERY interesting! Thanks for your input everybody. What can see here are 2 things. lighting of course and the spectrum of it. In RICHDRAGON'S case he says that the anemones that are further away from the light show bubbles..so, this shows that intense lighting makes the bubbles go away..also, I do believe blue spectrum helps the bubbles come out. IME..the only time the bubbles in my anemone came out was when the actinic VHOs came on..(see fig.1)..

So now, it lost the bubbles and they wont come back on (3x250w 12Ks MH and URI VHO's)..So, Im gonna do a little experiment and move the anemone into a dimmer place further away from the light..see what happens..

Ok, moved the anemone into a shady area of the tank..Will post as soon as i see any changes in the bubbleness..If i dont, well---the question will remain unanswered :D

what if there are bubbles only sometimes... or, only on half the bta? (whitch is the case with mine!) :)

Yeah, me too.

I think it has something to do with feeding and also with light.

Well..Its been a few days since I moved my RBTA into a lower light area and no signs of any bubbles :( ..Im beginning to think its a matter of spectrum, not intensity.. My next experiment will be a RBTA under 175w , 20K MH's-- Will see how it reacts.
