Dragon Goby a PITA!

Why does my dragon goby insist on covering my corals in sand? theres so much room for him to sift the sand, yet he'll grab a mouthful, swim over a coral and then sift it out. Am i going to need to get rid of him? IF i dont pay enough attention he will certainly kill my mushroom and my candy canes(which are already suffering)

try to increase the flow in that area so the sand is blown off or may be he wont like it and stay away from there

That's odd. The maroon clowns are notorious for that annoying behavior but I haven't heard of mandarins doing it.

i dont think its a mandarin. but one good thing about him, before him i had a cyano problem, two weeks after i got him it was gone and i havent seen even a hint of it in two months

I was warned to stay away from gragon goby's because of this exact behavior. They will constantly drop substrate on your corals.

I had one in my 90 and he did that. he would actually bring sand to the very top and pepper my sps with it. VERY easy to get sandburn that way. (i fished him out and sold him). you should get an orange spotted goby or a tiger sleeper goby. I have had both with great success.

I see what you are saying. Must be 2 different fish.

The reason I brought that up, my LFS had a fish labeled the "Dragon Goby." Awesome looking fish, but he said it gets HUGE, and not reef safe.

The one in the store looks nothing like either of the pics you or I linked.
The one in the store had like horns on its head. My son wanted it just because of the horns.

yea i have the dragon goby. man, hed be a pain to get out. and id hate to put him through the stress of going to the store and then another tank. boy he is a pain tho. even if i didnt have corals. he still likes to rearrange the sand piles like crazy, i cant keep a flat sand bed cus of him.
