hey all

i'm doing some research into pipes for when i get my tank back up and i'm interested in experiences with pipes and tankmates. please let me know what you've kept, how long, and any pertinent information you can share. mostly i'm interested in the dragon pipe and what can/can't be kept with one or two of those. thanks

I have seen them in reef settings. I would think anything that wont out compete them for food or sting them would be ok. Add the pipes first and make sure they are eating healthy before adding anything else though. I originally was going to have Banghai Cards but WWM said that was a bad combo. I am thinking now of pistol shrimp and shrimp goby (or two pair) along with other shrimp. I love sexy shrimp and camel backs so I plan on those along with a pair of blood red shrimp.
Most of your active fish are definate no-gos. They will either pick on the pipes if they notice them or simply get to the food faster.

okay, so that's gobies and shrimp. thanks bluetangclan. who else keeps these with any other fish? share your successes and/or warnings here

camelbacks aren't the best tankmates, as they're predatory. peppermints are a better choice.

also, depending on your tank size and maturity, be aware that many small gobies and similar fish are direct food competitors with the pipes. in this case, you might consider fish that swim and feed from the water column. to be honest, most fish don't even pay the DF's any attention as long as they aren't "pickers" like triggers or puffers.
