DreamChip build

I know there are rules against posting where said chips come from, but out of curiosity what did one of those chips cost you?

I did not see any post about it but do you plan on supplementing with any blue? Would you mind pming me on where I could source one of these chips?

My plan is to install the second DreamChip as well (I planned on doing it this weekend - but I have kids! :headwally:) and then to lower somewhat the white channels effectively getting more blue light.

As for the source, I'll PM you.

I have ordered one of these for my 32 solona, and have a few questions for you.

1. How did you mount the chip to your cooler master heat sinks? Did you use the bracket or something else?

2. How are you driving the fan for the heat sink? I have already somehow burt mine fan up in a test run, my guess I gave it to much power and now need to order new one.

Thanks

I have just used the thermal paste and two plastic restrainers (don't really know how it's called in English) - you know the plastic strips used to bundle cables... I tried using the bracket but either I'm totally clumsy or it just can't work. I'm satisfied with the results.

I have a 12V 0.5A power supply from some leds I was using before. A plain and simple power adapter, like the one for a mobile phone or such. Important thing is that it's 12V as that drives the fan on max speed, unless you have some kind of controller.

After all the technical info it is time to check on whether the DreamChip is actually beneficial to corals.

I zeroed on my birdsnest from the beginning as it sits almost right under the light and is in the middle of the tank, easy to photograph right through the glass.

The first photo was made on November 11, the second one Today, meaning exactly two weeks later.

Birdsnest was sitting under T5 lights at my LFS so it needed some time to acclimate to the new DreamChip. This went fine, just as with the other corals. As you can see from the two photos there is a nice amount of growth seen after only two weeks and the coral looks happy.

I hope to be able to document growth of other corals as well and keep track of (hopefully) further progress with the DreamChip.

Are you noticing any browning or de-saturation?

the second picture of the birdsnest appears to either have some browning/desaturation or just hasn't colored up due to grow out.

It looks great. Are you satisfied with the color rendering?

Sincerly Lasse

It's not bad but I like my tank to be more blue. As I said before, when I add the second DreamChip (finally) I will lower somewhat the white channels to get this "blue look" that I like.

Are there 50W versions of the dream chip available? Would 3 of them overclocked to 100W be enough for a 72"x18"x22" tank? I would like to run each channel on all three chips off one dimable driver. So five drivers. Doable?

there were, but the group buy window is closed

someone will probably start retailing or ebaying multichannel soon, at least I hope so
