Those corals are starting to grow! You need some red, pink, blue and yellow corals though:D

I believe the brown algae you are talking about is micro. Add a Kole Tang and it will be gone in a day. He will keep it away for good.

Just quickly browsed through this thread, 30 mins gone, there are a lot of pages! haha... You've got a pro setup man, good attention to detail! loved how in the beginning the fellow reefer sent you home with 24 ziploc bags, its awesome to come across fellow reefers like that. :D

Subscribed! Keep killin it :uzi:

Did you get rid of the gorg?

I have no shortage of brown ones right now...

The Gorg unfortunately succumbed to the Dino infestation I had dealt with a while back. I loved the movement it added to the tank but it was like a Dino magnet. Every time I'd blow it off or try and save it the Dinos would attach almost immediately. There was almost nothing I could do to help the little bugger... and believe me I tried. :(

Thanks Pete! :)

What exactly is the "micro" you are speaking of? It's weird stuff... It's brown in color and relatively filamentous. Sometimes it grows on my MP40's and when I soak them in Vinegar it turns green almost instantly!! Have yet to figure that one out...

Thank you gb530. :) Yes, Nook is the man!! :D

Looking GREAT man. I wish my little goby kept my sand bed that clean!!!

Thanks iced! I thought you had a pair of Yellow Head Sleepers... Do you have a Diamond Goby? Mine is doing a pretty darn good job of sifting. The biggest sandstorms he makes is when he digs under the rocks, presumably where the most detritus is. The good part is he travels all over the tank, so he's apparently not very territorial. lol

UPDATE:

Hit the LFS today and picked up a few more corals. :) I don't remember the exact names so any ideas would be great. Polyps are still retracted so I'm excited to see what they look like open.

I think this was the Garf Bonsai?? Purple with yellow polyps. Polyps still have color when closed.

I really dig this one. A bright yellow Acro. Bottle Brush??

NewPics-2_zpsb3d52a71.jpg~original

Really interesting aqua blue color in this one. Echinata??

NewPics-3_zps8c0c1d7f.jpg~original

Another... Slimed up a little in the transfer. Green Stylophora??

And finally, this one is really cool too. Pic doesn't show the details, but it has a subtle rainbow effect in it's color.

I like the phoenix 250w se bulbs. I think out of all the bulbs I tried, those gave me the best visual, coral color and growth.. They last long to.. I have lumatek switchable ballasts.

If that is a bonsai its gonna color up alot more. Dark purple. Likes high light.

Cool, thanks for the info Henry. Are you running your Phoenix bulbs on HQI? If so, how long are they lasting for you? What happened to your build thread, I thought you had started one?

Tank is looking GORGEOUS, Brett! I still haven't been able to get any coralline to grow on my marco rocks.

Thanks iwish. :) For real? That's amazing your tank isn't growing coralline!! What's your Alk, Ca and Mag levels? Have you ever tried to scrape some off a snail to seed the tank?

Even your sand is spotless!!!

Everything looks awesome.

Ha! My little Goby is working like a champ. Thanks Dennis. :)

Yeah, even when it was in my 75g tank (15g now) with on-target levels it wouldn't grow, even though it grew in more shaded areas of the sump on live rock. I never scraped it, but I did have it on frag plugs and critters. Maybe it just prefers MH lighting. I don't test now - of course, I should.

You may have addressed this, but do you find it hard to keep LPS happy in your low-nutrient environment? Do you need to target feed more often to have your success?

That is crazy! My rock is covered I'd say at least 99%, whether that's good or bad... I haven't had to scrape too much off the glass luckily. Don't know if you want it or not but I scraped some snail shells to seed the tank when I first added my clean up crew. I promise no snails were hurt in the process. :D

In regards to my LPS, they seem to be doing quite well. I had a little issue when I was going through the Dino outbreak, but they've made a strong recovery since then. I broadcast Rod's food every day for my core feedings so I'm sure they get some of that. I think I'm going to up my feedings a bit for the corals in general though and add either Coral Frenzy or Reef Chili to the mix. I also feed Mysis, Cyclopeeze, and occasionally brine throughout the week - so it's my hope everyone gets a little something in the feedings.

great pictures - your corals are looking awesome

Thank you Pete, that means a lot coming from you. :) Any tips on getting my Tri-Color Acros to color up? PO4 is currently 0.01 and they are still mostly light brown. Tips have a little color but I'm not seeing any major improvement in overall color. I'm short on ideas...

love all the new corals. the tank continues to mature nicely, can't wait to see it grown out in a year or two. keep at it!

excellent additions. Those corals are looking very nice. Can't wait to see all these bad boys grow up!

Few questions if you don't mid relating to the fuge plumbing:

I finally finished my larger growout tank: 60x 32x12

I plan to run two 2 simple PVC drains internally(no overflow), for redundancy. One on each back corner proximity.
Max flow to the tank will be ~ 400gph. So 1 -1" drain should easily handle it let alone 2.

Would it be better to have them just go out thru the bottom or go out the back and have upturned elbows to set the water height? How are you liking your upturned elbows? either way I plan to use intake screen to keep critters out. Are you using anything on yours?

Out the back seems to leave more space on the bottom for corals or rock or whatnot.
Also seems that if the PVC got knocked out that it wouldn't fully drain the tank, only down a few inches...
But will the extra bends be any sort of issue down to the sump??

The drains in the bottom seem a simple straight shot down to the sump. But if the PVC comes out, full drain of the tank!

I don't want to glue the PVC into the BH so if i need to adjust something or clean the PVC is removeable. It really shouldnt ever come out as it's a pretty tight fit..but nonetheless........
