drummereef's 180g in-wall build

Whoa I missed this thread, its been too long. Glad to see that Brett is finally back, and that the reef will live on. This tank has been the model for the tank I want to build one day.

I feel your pain Brett.

I have almost the same exact setup as you have and shared many posts with you through the past several years. I've been in the hobby for over 12-years and been through alot over the years. Had great success and literally had to reaquascape my 180-gl sps because it had become over grown from all the growth.

To that end, one year after I did my reaquascape and aquired a good deal of new Milli's, etc I had a MAGOR green hair algae outbreak. It literally overtook my tank in weeks. I never, in all my reefkeeping years, ever experience such a GHA outbreak like I did. To this day I still can't figure out what went wrong other then my rock release phosphates AGAIN and maybe my frozen food.

Anyhow, it brought me to my knees and I still haven't recovered from it. This happened in the winter months. I lost almost all my sps corals and the only thing remaining in my tank is my beloved Riterri anemone. Likely all my fish are doing great.

Well.....that's my buckling moment and feel your pain. My goal is to do a full redo and pull all my sand, grab some washed rock from a friend of mine and completely start form scratch. I am hopeful that will be the end of my GHA. If that does not work I may throw the towel in or go to an anemone only tank or something like that.

Ok.....enough venting!

WOOHOO! Brett's back! :bounce1:

I almost didn't look in here, figuring the thread got bumped by another poor soul looking for an update. :D

Glad to see you back. Looking forward to pics. :)

Ditto.

What kind of rock are you going to use this time, Brett?

[profanity]! The rockstar has returned to the stage. :) Looking forward to updates good sir!

brett, remind me what rock you had at the end before you pulled it? I think you started with marco baserock, which is what I had, and I've not been pleased with it long term. I've since collected 150 pounds or so over the last couple years and have started to include it/remove the original base rock.

I'm pretty sure he had Marco baserock through all of this and just pulled that out. He hasn't said what he is going with instead yet (or at least I don't remember reading it). He just needs to come back and update us on stuff. :)
