DSB in refuge matted by calerpa

The calerpa in my refuge has put down a dense mat of roots into the DSB so much so that the DSB is almost rock hard. It is not calcified hard. It is the Calerpa roots tieing everything together. The Calerpa itself is not looking that great.

Is this healthy for the DSB?

Viewed through the glass the DSB has black patches throughout, I assume from anaerobic decomposition.
