DSPS tank from Thailand (1000 gallon+)

hey chingchai,

Is it ever a problem to bring marine livestocks from neighbouring countries like Indonesia, Singapore etc. back to Thailand? Seems like it's a no-hassle trip to bring nice stuff home to your display tank? Maybe I'm wrong to assume ...

Well. If it is only fish, that is no problem.
But coral is different issue.
You've got to know some people to make your way out of the custom.:p

Wow I sense A split number 2 is coming!
Ching your tank build will be my ultimate inspiration
I wish I won the 230+ million jackpot So maybe I can afford something like this! Lol

Don't hate me.:lmao:

No, they didn't ship.
I ask my friend to pick them up in Singapore.
:D

Very nice, always best to not ship if at all possible.

They're also my favorite fish... there were two that came into a retailer I deal with quite frequently late last year but unfortunately neither of them made it, so I'm still on the everlasting hunt!

How big are they?

Hello,

I am amazed by this tank. Very beautiful.

Too many pages to find the answer to my question so I hope you do not mind asking.

What are you nutrient export avenues?

What sort of skimmer? Any phosphate removal mechanisms? Anything else?

Many thanks and I wish you continued success.

Austin. You are exactly right.
Why take risk with these rare fishes.
Sorry to hear you can't have them yet. You will get them someday for sure.

The male is huge, something like 6".
Both female are 4".
Their color is much better and more vibrant than the one I used to have.

StripestheEel. Thank you.

The way I deal with nutrient export is very simple and conventional.
- I do weekly water change 15%.
- using over-spec skimmer (BK 650)
- phosphate media (Rowaphos) monthly change
- dosing Biodigest and Bioptim every two week

My new fish addition.

Very nice selection of fish!
I was wondering, is there a factory for all this superb fish where you can order them:D? I'm saying this because every time I need a fish I might wait for it a year or two.
Any tips please?

Great fish addition but I hope you have better luck with them that I did. I put them in my tank and never saw them again.:mad2::fish1::mad2:

Well, it's hard to explain.
I just keep asking for my LFS what kind of fish I am dying for.
And some or any of them will find them for me.
Money is really not the subject. It is the relationship, I guess.

Beautiful addition and nice picture. What is your updated fish list and are you going to be adding any Anthias?

Hey ching

Any update on that trio of interruptus? Are they still in QT or display tank already.

Do you have any more shots of the resplendent. Was in love with it, been looking for one till now.

Really beautiful pair of helfrich goby. Was doing well in the shop for sometime, guess you shouldn't have any problem with them:p:p

The only problem I ever have with any of the Fire fish gobys (Red Purple or Helfrichs) and wrasses for that matter is them jumping out of the tank....
But in Chings case I dont think the fish can find the top :lmao:

Rock On Ching Great tank and thread I have to stop in every day to see whats new
Inspirational no doubt

Hi Ching,

Fantastic build thread in every way ;) . I absolutely love this tank.

I started reading this thread some time ago and did'nt keep up w/ it so I have gone back and started reading again from the beginning. As you can tell I am only up to about page 75 now.

I was looking at these pics of your sump and wondered if you took off the 90deg. elbow on the drain from the skimmer and replaced it w/ a "T". I do this w/ my skimmer drains and then you can submerge the drain and this will cut back on noise and may solve some micro bubble issues if you have any as well it will eliminate that salt spray from the side of the sump walls.

It's pretty simple to do. You would just take off the 90deg elbow and replace it w/ a "T" and extend the pipe going into the sump so it is submerged and then add a pipe going up. You can cap that pipe and drill a hole in the cap so it is vented and water flows freely.

Just a thought....Who knows, I'm only on page 75 so maybe you have changed this already ;)

great job,

Chad
