DSPS tank from Thailand (1000 gallon+)

Hi Chingchai , my tank has 3 section only one has a couple majano and i have tested rock that has it in the middle section, all my large angels ate them especially the french, but of course i have no lps in the middle section.

perhaps you can find one that works with your sps?

hi Chingchai,

I am sure your tank gonna look even better with the new changes you are making...

Good luck with everything and very eagerly waiting your updates :)

Just one humble doubt,,,why did you remove the miracle mud in the refugium, wont you be losing a lot of beneficial bacteria? The refugium could be converted into a temporary holding tank for corals with some egg crate to prop them off the sand bed right?
Or is there any other reason for emptying the refugium?

Ching, do you plan to return mud and sand to the refugium and if so are you concerned about how that may affect your display reef.

also will it be the same mud and sand or will you go with all fresh or a mix.

aside from trimming corals and moving locations what other changes have you considered

Once I finish my re-aquascape, I will add new Miracle Mud and let it settle for a while.
No other change yet.

Anup. Thanks.
There is no side-affect at all.
I want to use space in my refugium to hold my corals for a while.
And I think it's about time to change Miracle Mud as well.

One of my dream fish: Bodianus masudai
Thank you Koji from Blueharbor. You are always the MAN!

is it just weird trickery of the camera or or is the front a "double bow"

beautiful tanks by the way

Ching, How long does the mud need to be a part of a system before it will function properly. I have heard of the product of course, but never known anyone who used it to know the specifics about its use and how it compares to having a deep sand bed within a refugium

I assume that you need to have creatures such as worms, snails, stars, and similar to keep the mud functioning effectively.

And how do you know when you are able to allow water to flow out of the refugium back to the display tank

The bodianus masudai is very beautiful , already have one in your tank right? or was a Bodianus sepiacadus ?:eek2:

The underwater cam was jaw dropping!! One day I would hope to have something like this. The back patio is being draft up right now to accomodate something of this size. Thanks fpr keeping us inspired chingchai.

Wow....2+ milllions hits. You should put advertisements on this thread and make some money!!!

Best of Luck to you. Unfortunate, you are unlikely to get all of the Majano because they like to hide in the deep cracks in the rock. I broke down my tank to get rid of Majano 5 years ago but they came back again. Did you ever consider using a natural predator like matted filefish to keep them under control? I hear a lot of people have good experience with them and they are much less likely to bother your corals than butterflyfish.

i had the pleasure of meeting Koji at Macna this year...very interesting individual and yes he is the man for rare and unusual fish!
Good luck with the redo of the tank...I can only imagine the frustration!

Ching, is that a "gut feeling" about the state of the mud or based on a shift in parameters in the system. I am guessing there are components which are consumed/depleted through time

I was just wondering what you based changing the mud on. I wonder with all the other changes you are making to the coral structure if leaving the mud alone until sometime after would have been a better option. Not second guessing,
just wondering

The mud is functioning once you put it in the tank.
No need for any creatures to add.
It is much better than deep sand bed. You have to try it.

When I put mud in the refugium, I will fill it up with saltwater. And let it settle for 24 hours. Take out all the detritus and then I can allow water to flow out of it.
