DSPS tank from Thailand (1000 gallon+)

Wow just finished this beast, need to catch my breath took some doing, just an amazing tank but the setup and design are my favorite parts by far. Best build thread I have read.

I did notice that you had some rock anemones, I don't know if you read CORAL, but Dick Perrin of Tropicorium had an article in the last issue. He has been breading rock anemones for about a year now and he has some amazing specimens you should checkout, nothing like them in the world.

Also saw a few posts from my Michigan brethren working my way through here and wanted to say hello.

Thanks Mr Wilson.

Are you saying that it's ok to feed metronidazole to the reeftank, without harming the filter or the inhabitants?.

I always thought that antibiotic dosing into the reeftank could harm the filter bacteria, so interested to hear if it works without harm....

Thanks
Mo

Metronidazole doesn't adversely affect the filter bed, but it does take a toll on some corals. I only use it with lightly stocked tanks and remove it with carbon after a few days.

I'm happy to see you rise to the challenge Chingchai. If anyone can pull it off, you can. If you need to add more surface area for biological filtration, you could use some ceramic media like siporax in your sump.

Lawrence, there were too many problems happen in the last few months.
I did think about quitting in this hobby but I can't. Maybe it is the destiny.
So the only way to bring back my attention is I have to do some drastic change.
I may make a wrong decision to use this fiberglass and not listening to you guys' advice.
We'll see.

Sir
unfortunately I know the feeling
Currently i am selling almost all of my acropora and getting more large angels
To get me energized or something to put back a little smile in my face. It's been a very tough few years but I have to keep on trying.

Anyway good luck with the rebuild part 2

I've followed this thread since the start, I think its almost impossible to get a sterile enviorment without aptasia, or some algae. I have beaten te algae game, but I still to this day have aptasia, I kill them with aptasia X every other week and they come back as babies.

I guess I must be very lucky as I had a few of those nasty anemones but added the peppermint shirmp and killed the small number of big ones

the shrimp do a bang up job with them as I still see the pest in the refugium but never in the display. I almost never see the shrimp save a few shunked exoskeletons from time to time

Ching, good luck with everything.

I really like the new rock work. It looks great. I hope it works out well for you. I have a man-made rock structure from the Alternative Reef that I had in my 20" cube. It was excellent and looked great. They'll be at the 2013 MACNA, so I might buy a new, big structure from him then because I'll be moving soon and setting up a new reef. I'm also looking into Aquaroche rocks. I'm going to start a thread trying to find people that have used it and their opinions on it and if there are any potential problems.

Anyway, I'm sure everything will work out for you and I'm looking forward to meeting you at MACNA next year.

Make sure that you completely vanish mojanos before introducing platstones to your tank.

I've already used those rocks, they are beautiful, very light in weight so they are easy to shift, witch is good for small to medium tanks.

Those rocks do not avoid any pets or nusiance algae I can guarantee you that. Also those rocks are not biological efficient as live rock is.

Bringing pros and cons to the table I decided to return to mother nature rocks. :)

I also suggest that you increase your biological system (remote) before changing the rocks.

Again, as Shawn also noted, I am sure you will find a way to make it work ! Best of luck in your endeavors :)

Definitely. We can't kill them all. But we have to minimize them.

canesfan44. Thank you so much.
Look forward to meeting you in MACNA and seeing your build thread as well.
