DSPS tank from Thailand (1000 gallon+)

Sir the fish may appear great because they are able to fight off the velvet or other nastys in the tank but they still a carrier.

Sorry if I appear pushy but I thought I will try to make you think about it more.

Thank you

You are exactly right. Thank you for your concern.

No, I don't use them anymore. I replace with LED white from Eco-Lamps KR99M.

Ching, I have been waiting on LED lighting as its such an up-front cost for my classroom. Can you share with me how you have those arranged their number and any critical info that I am not educated enough about LED lighting to ask.
Am I right that you are using the LEDs for balance and boost but not the primary lighting??

are you pleased with what those LED's are producing? what changes would you like if not??

I have a set-up similar to what I think you had which was m/h in a grid and the tube lights between and around the outer edge

I know Peter made the leap right away but I can not afford to take such a risk without long-term data showing good coral growth over a longer period of time

lastly, do you see yourself switching out the m/h lighting as well if so could you share your thoughts on what that might look like too.

thank you for your time and knowledge.

Dave. I think you know about LED more than me. Really.
For me, I use LED just for the supplement.
At the moment I don't have any plan to switch my main lighting from MH to LED. I am still very happy with the combination of MH+LED+VHO.

thanks for the reply Ching, I doubt very much that I know more about the LED lighting than you. ;)

its so frustrating as I keep hearing great things from different sources then something very counter from the next. It would be a great savings to even replace the t-5 lighting but I am still so nervous about making a change from what I know and is working okay.

i had the ecotech radian, now i just changed to Geniesmann Fixture t5 and MH. my opinion right now is mH show me some color that Led can't, it look coral more colorful. But the minus point is the heat, its too hot lol, before my led only make my chiller run once a day, not it runs 3 times a day. lol

This is the argument that we will be talking about for years.
I have AI Vega over my 180, and Orphek PR-156 over my 110. Neither give me the color and growth that we get in our MH systems.

but I WANT LEDs to work.

There are so many benefits to them over the MH, but they got to perform!!

Chingchai, what would it take for you to feel comfortable with changing? Or is there no intention or desire to make that change?

Until now, I don't have any plan to change my lighting yet.
It doesn't mean LED is not good enough. But it is just my personal preference.

I would like to add...a tank of Chingchai's magnitude...taking into consideration especially the depth...I honestly don't think any LED system currently in the market can sustain SPS corals...
Tank dimensions play THE most important factor in selecting LED systems.
LEDs definately work...if you choose the right unit for the right tank dimension.

Couldn't one just go with tighter lens on the LEDs to get deeper penetration though? I know they would need more LEDs most likely
