DSPS tank from Thailand (1000 gallon+)

wait for another one ching...
if you don't want to wait then introduce it to the main tank...and wait for a pair to come up ....

Another bad day of my life, I lost my second Gramma dejongi this morning with no reason. I don't even have a chance to pair them yet.
What should I do next?
- introduce the only one to main tank
- wait for the second one
- sell the first one out

I am really depressed.

Chingchai. Sorry for your loss, it happens despite all we do to prevent it. Be patient, wait for the new specimen and attempt to pair them in QT. Much better chance for success. Best of luck !

just curious, is this fish suppose to be in a pair to be added into the main tank? lol I thought any fish can be added single..:strooper:

Sorry for your loss. Because of the size of your tank, I would put the one you already have in it. If you are able to acquire another dejongi, just add it: there is plenty of space to avoid each other in case they wouldn't like each other straight away ;)

I am really depressed.

That is very sad to hear, probably shipping stress? I was also very depressed when i lost my lipogramma klayi overnight due to a bladder infection. However i soon got over it and i believe you will too.

Anyway i feel you should just add the lone Dejongi into the main tank. There's no need to pair your Dejongi up, it is beautiful enough on its own in your main tank!

Chingchai,
I am very sorry for your loss. Your tank and your experience with it has become community property on this forum so we all feel the loss in some way. However whether its a predator, a tsunamis, global warning or even human intervention, evolution is a fact of life that nothing stays the same. As long as we aspire to be passionate about this hobby, pain and sadness will always counterbalance the joy and happiness. It is as much a fact of life that I have been learning about in the marine world as learning to use a skimmer properly.

After you have QT'd the fish long enough to ensure that he is healthy for the main tank then put him in and give him a royal name so we can share in the history of this fish with you. Sort of makes him special and honours his former tank mates.............

Keep your head high Chingchai you have lots more work to do!!!!

Peter

Sorry about the loss sir:(
But this hobby is always very challenging specially if your pushing the boundaries that's why we are so addicted to it.
I know your dejongi is rare and very expensive but the large angels is my equivalent of your rare fish since that's the most I can afford.
And still I keep on trying like you told me so :)

No, it doesnt need to be paired. However, it appears that is what chingchai was originally attempting to do and, imo, should still try despite the recent setbacks. Being that this is a rare species, without many attempts to keep in captivity, he is/would be helping in pioneering experience on the behavioral traits of this species towards conspecifics. Not to mention the show value of this fish would be greatly enhanced were it to be successfully paired.

Sorry to see that Chingchai...trust me I know how you feel.

If you really want to pair them up With a higher success rate I would wait for the second specimen, and place the new on on QT for a few weeks to get healthy. Then introduce them into the QT together and let them get comfortable there prior to going into the display.

The other school of thought is to just keep the one if it is really healthy and count your blessings.

Unbelievable job so far with everything.

Sorry for your loss. Man I must say this is an amazing thread. Your tank and the detail is out of this universe. I've tried to catch a video but not able to view it right now. I do see a few things I think your lights are off when I'm awake here in Alabama. When I win the lottery I'm going to start a thread like this.....

just 1 word WoW!....ching thank for sharing the amazing threat build I learn a lot from it and hopefully in feature my tank will be 10% good as your I be happy:)

Awesome tank... but if you had the chance to change anything what would it be and why... just curious cause it looks like you have it all figured out.

rpjaws74. Thanks.
If possible, I need a deeper tank. Something like 60".
It will look much better.
