Dual drain problem

So the new 240 gal has a large overflow champer in the middle rear of the tank, with two 3/4" return bulkheads and two 1" drain bulkheads. I built two Durso standpipes for the drains, and ran 3/4" PVC up to an elbow, drilled it for a siphon break, and put loc-line to direct the flow into the main tank.

The return pump is a Sequence Dart...lots of flow and a bit too much resistance in 3/4" plumbing, but I've also got it going to the chiller and I have a loop-back to the sump if I still have too much flow after all that. Right now though, if the pump is going full bore, it drastically out-flows the Dursos...this surprised me, until I realized that one of them is flowing nicely, but the other one barely a trickle. It so happens that the one that is not flowing is a bit taller than the other one, so I thought maybe that was the problem...the water level in the overflow chamber was beneath the downward end of the elbow, so the water couldn't get in the pipe. However, I enlarged the siphon break hole in the top cap of the one that is flowing to bring the water level up a bit, and it seems to be high enough now, but...still nothing. I can hold my finger over the hole in the one that works and feel suction, but nothing over the one that doesn't work. This is driving me nuts...I don't want to have to crank the Dart down, I need the flow...but I need both drains flowing for that. Did I screw up? Are you not supposed to have two Dursos in the same overflow box or something?

I would plug the one that is working in order to trouble shoot the one that is not. My first guess was a height issue, but it sounds like you eliminated that. Pics might help of your plumbing set up:)

When I had the tank fresh water testing it was in the middle of the room where I could see from behind exactly what was happening in the overflow chamber. Now that its against the wall, I can't see anything :-( Good idea on plugging the one. I should have thought of that myself! Rich Durso (the inventor of the Durso standpipe, I used the plans on his site to make mine) suggested that possibly the teeth on my overflow are simply not flowing enough water to supply both drains. I'm hoping that's not the case.
