Duncan verses Maroon Clown

I wasn't sure where to post this so I started here - Ive had a maroon clown in my tank for a several months now, no anemone for him. I just got a Duncan frag this past weekend and it looks great - feelers are all out, even took a small piece of shrimp last night. Today I noticed the maroon nipping at the Duncan - but he's not biting it, sounds weird but almost like he's sucking on the tentacles. He keeps swiming around it - do you suppose he wants to host with it? Has anyone had that happen before?

Yeah I say trying to host it. When I first started into saltwater I had 2 small percs that would suck on my torch coral. Thought it was funny and asked about it here and got the same answer.

agreed. they do that to their nems. keep on eye on your duncans some clowns can rough up lps to the point of killing them.

Thank you for your replies - wasn't sure anyone would. Now he keeps knocking it off where I put it - I don't have it glued down yet. I think it would be cool it they hosted each other.
Thanks again

I have a large Duncan that my Maroon hosts. I put in an Anemone and he left the Duncan for that. He bugged and bugged it until he killed it (took 3 weeks but finally died) and once he did that he has gone right back to the Duncan. No more Anemones in my tank for him! Actually it is the second one he killed.
He is pretty rough on the Duncan as well but it hangs in there. I am constantly tipping it back upright.

Hopefully it will survive if it is small...Good Luck.

Clowns are not really represented in the hobby the way they should be, they can be very aggressive, when they decide they are going to host something, they almost love it too much, just keep an eye on it, it will prolly be ok. I had the same thing with my Picasso's, they did that with a torch, got better over time though.

What type of anemone? I'm amazed it killed a nem and Duncan's are holding up against it.

I hate clownfish. Every one I've owned became a problem.

I had a medium sized true perc that harassed (I won't say "hosted") a large Duncan (at least a dozen heads) without mercy, mauling it night and day, until I had to remove the Duncan to save its life.

Vastly overrated fish if you ask me.

He would not leave it alone and the last one was a very large and pretty LTA which is why I was so upset. It moved all over the tank and finally in a crevice but the Clown was still able to pester it until it died. I thought it would be OK but nooooooooooooo.
