Duo or Trio of Royal Gramma ?

Hi,

I wanted to had two royal gramma, but I have no idea how to determine sex for this fish. Are they hermaphrodite so either the bigger/smaller one will be another sex as the opposite size ? I though of a trio because if there is aggresion, it will be divided between 2 fish instead of one.

Any tips, input or experience on adding multiple royal gramma ?

Thanks

I have four that live together happily. One I had for 2 years and then added 4 small ones. One of the small ones grew larger than all including the original one. He also starts to build nests so I believe he is the male.

I moved them from a 280 gal to a 55 gal temporarily and they're still happy. One disappeared but I do not believe it was killed off as they all got along happily. So I have had the four for six months now in the 55 gal. They will be rehomed into a 380 gal where I plan to add at least three more.

If you add three small ones all at once and have a good amount of rock you should not have a problem. Remember they live in groups in nature.

I have had 2 in my 120g for about a month now. They spent the first week on opposite sides of the tank but now hang out together in the same area. I haven't noticed the least bit of aggression between them.
