ok.. so I have some ick or flukes going on in my system. slowly lowering to do hypo over past three days. Maze angle since getting him two weeks ago has not really eaten but is hanging in and swimming and seems at ease. day or so ago came home to him half black and half gray. usually his body is solid gray to black depending on mood. has been like this now for about a day. on a side note Fish are taking the hypo fine and I have no ammonia spikes. few corals that are left in tank that I understand will eventfully die are still fine at 1.014

Here is the pic

ok point of clarification.. I was 90 percent sure I had ick .. crypto...
thought perhaps flukes also. I have since checked the situation out and will post some pics of what crypto.. ick looks like under the scope. In the slides under the scope did not see flukes.. hypo being performed in DT as the other angels have all signs of ick... lost a bandit this am.

here is ick on gills.. notice the large black circle encased in mucus.

Down to 1.012. Who knew it would take a week of 60 gallons per day to go from 1.025 to 1.012

Holy crap, are you hypoing your entire 800 gallon system? Wow dude, that sounds like a lot of salt. Wait, no that's not possible, you've got a reef. This must be in a hospital/quarantine tank, right? Sounds like a large tank!

Nope. It's the display. Pulled the corals out. Pulled out some rock tgat had nice corals. Sacrificed some corals. Have or had about 40 fish in main display. Could not put all fish in hospital tank as had like 15 Angels infected. Good news is they are all eating still And seam to be breathing easier this afternoon. No amonia spike

Wow. That's amazing. That's got to be a fortune in salt! Well, no one said this hobby would be cheap (though I didn't realize just how expensive either, lol).

Good luck man!

Well today it is down to 1.009. lost some fish yesterday. tank is starting to see some die off from the 1.009. time will tell over next few days if hypo is or was a good or bad idea

thanks

... warning to those doing hypo... really need.. again really need to keep a watch on the ammonia... need to be ready with water changes..

tank spike ammonia at 1.011. lost some fish overnight few days ago. did a 300 gallon water change. used an ammonia detox as emergency measure day before while I waited for the 300 gallons of water.

fish doing better.. but looking at water change everyday at this point... doing 60 gallons per day... I expect to do another 300 gallons in a few days again. added some bacteria product to get the cycle of bacteria back in order....

not sure if I would recommend this to anyone.. meaning hypo a display tank v tank the tank down remove the fish and let tank sit fallow.. treat fish in other tank if can.. I could not due to the number of fish. Could not QT 40 plus fish in my case..

thirty years of salt water hobby.. I think this I like 8 time I have had to go through some thing like this.. nuts..

i can't even begin to imagine a 300g water change. i will never again complain about doing a 10g change when i'd rather be playing outside!!

sorry for the losses, hope you get things straightened out without having more casualties.

warning.. do not hypo display tank with algea growth.. too much die off. too much waste. ammonia spike.. ouch..
