Dwarf Fuzzy Lionfish

Update: bought some freshwater ghost shrimp, ate two of them, the four remaining ones went into my freshwater tank where only three out of the remaining four remain as far as I can see, that's 49 cents lost.

Congrats on your dwarf fuzzy! Sweet looking fish!

I got mine at the LFS. They had it listed as not being a jumper. Wow, I'm glad I caught this thread. Will cover the tank immediately.

These fish are the best. They have such personalities! Had I known this, I would have not spent so much time being bitten by all those clowns in the past..... :)

Lol, i had a male clownfish that would bite the he k out of me when i was working in the tank, nothing super exciting happening yet with the fuzzy but i will try to give him some rod's food predator blend when i feed my eel and mantis.

We've actually told a few LFS that lions can jump...one was after the fact (they came in to find them on the floor, and asked us when we popped in).

We've seen lions, scorps, stingfishes, and waspfishes jump out of tanks...none of which have ever been "known" as jumpers.

As for the clownfish thing...'nuff said! *wink*

update: attempted to give a piece of shrimp and a piece of fish found in rod's reef blend. looked interested in the shrimp but not the fish didn't take either, but my eel did gladly.

Update: got him to take from a feeding stick! Gave him a ghost shrimp on a kabob stick. One step closer.

Managed to find a light for the tank, even though its a little too large.

Update: after a little bit of patience, he decided to take a piece of krill from a kabob. Next feeding attempt will come wednesday, while i feed my other predatory stuff.

Not to highjack the thread but I have had a Fuzzy Dwarf for about 6 months now. Started him on ghost shrimp on a stealth stick then to live minnows and then to frozen silversides. Great fish and was eating a silverside about every 3-5 days and is nice and fat. He hasn't eaten now for almost 2 weeks. He bit the silverside and couldn't immediately pull it off the fishing line and let go a week or so ago and now just looks at what I offer and eventually turns away. Not sure what to do to get him to eat again. Should I offer live food again? The issue may be the feeding stick but he moves so slow and is in a 180 I doubt he could catch live food if I dropped it in. Any ideas on what to offer and how?

I would try ghost shrimp again give him 2 or 3 every other day for a week and then after that, stab the ghost shrimp with the stealth stick to get him used to it again. Start attempting prepared food after that.

Ya I would go back to live, only because you don't want him to starve. But like hossa said offer the live food on the stick to get him used to it again

We've noticed that with some fishes, if the food is a bit "tight" on the stick, it doesn't come off, and some fishes pass on it when this happens. I usually give the chunks a bit of a "slide" to make sure it isn't stuck somehow.

Also, it might be the size of the food item. About eye-size is right, can be a little larger, but not too much. We have fish that pass on food that's too large.

Additionally, fishes know how fresh their food is, and if it's a bit "off" they'll turn their nose up at it...we've tossed food just for this reason.

Finally, we've had fishes get bored with their food, or some won't care for a certain food...or the fish might be full, etc. and will be fine next try.

Came across a predicament today. Ill be heading out of town for a week or so. Will he be find for a week without food, or should i have the person taking care of him feed him some live ghost shrimp ill buy?

If you have someone staying there or coming in, what Ralph said...have them drop a couple of ghosties in for it. OR, you can wait until you get back, and see if the fish being a tad hungry might "click it over" to the stick.

Mine took one ghost shrimp finally and then that was it.Will try again today. I have had the issue with the food being "tight" on the line where he will bite it and if it doesn't pull right off he will let go and then it seems he has a trust issue with it and it takes a few days for him to get hungry enough to try again. I have noticed the same thing with food being a few days old he will approach and sniff and turn away. I have started thawing just before feeding and if he doesn't take it I toss it. I think the real issue now is getting him to trust the feeding stick.
