I was looking into these guys when setting up my tank and elected not to because I was concerned they would eat my other fish. What size tank do you have them in? Do you house them with anything else, particularity anything smaller than then? I've heard they can open their mouths real wide....

Actually, fuzzies have one of the smaller mouths of the lionfish family. As long as the size differential between the fuzzy and any potential prey item is proper, there should be no trouble. However, most of the smaller shrimp, such as peppermints will become tasty treats. The shape of a tankmate is also important, as longer, slender fish are more easily swallowed than a taller fish of the same length.

IME, hermits are safe as long as they remain in their shells. We even keep a couple of scarlets in our adult volitans setup.

FWIW, we keep 2 species of dwarf lions (a fuzzy and a barberi) in a std. 60 gal along with a trio of blotched anthias, two small species scorpionfish (Scorpaenodes littoralis and S. caribbaeus), a red-finned waspfish, and a cockatoo waspfish + a CUC of assorted snails and a few scarlet reef hermits.

Yeah, I think my clowns would be big enough to avoid getting eaten once they get bigger (they're really small right now), but I feel the firefish I just introduced would get swallowed pretty quickly. Even full size, he's got the profile of a tootsie roll.

We'll see though, maybe he'll surprise me as he gets bigger.

It's a brachypterus...check the iris (not solid red). They do resemble a barberi in coloration tho, don't they?

my lfs got them in yesterday so i decided to scoop them up. i feed one of them some live feeders, im trying to get them eating and hopefully nxt week i can ween them off to silversides, the one fuzzy took a little interest to the silver i tried to feed him but in the end she didnt go for it.

Thanks Greg, btw how could u tell their sex again? when i picked them up i tried counting their stripes on their bodies and i though i got one male one female lol and im correct the are both fuzzies right?

Voice i have them both in a 210 tank with 1 yellow tang, 1 salfin tang, 1 foxface, 1 clown and 2 damsels.....so far they havent taken interest in my clown probably because she is pretty big, im looking to add 3 more clowns soon unless my fuzzies take an interest in my clown

It's the complete dark bands on the pectorals that you count. From what I can tell, their pectorals are rather short, which helps to confirm the band count.
