Dwarf Seahorses and coral banded shrimp?

So i got 2 dwarf seahorses for my new 10 gallon tank, my 6 gallon nano keeps getting too warm (81 deg.) so I am planning on transferring my zoas, xenias and some live rock. BUT..... I have a coral banded shrimp in the 6 gal. Can I put him in the 10 gallon with the seahorses? My boyfriend has a 40 gallon but he has cleaner shrimp and I have heard that the coral banded shrimp will kill them. What is my best option?

I wouldn't say your 81 degrees is too warm at all for your softies. I do not know anything about seahorses or their compatibility with the shrimp. If it is too warm for your (which it probably is, you know more about them then me, I'm sure) seahorses, I would suggest you leave your 6 gallon up with the coral banded in. As your softies grow just frag them in your 10 gallon tank. The important thing about temperature is to keep it stable, whether at 81 degrees or 78 degrees. All my tanks run at 79-80 degrees and all my corals grow like crazy.

Your dwarf seahorses won't last long with a coral banded shrimp.
Even full sized reidi/kuda/erectus would likely perish, as would some other normal small reef fish and shrimp often found in reef tanks.
My reef tanks all run in the 82°F average temp range.

I think it's too warm because I have had fish and corals die and we have tested everything and everything tests normal. Our other tanks have chillers and run at 76 and seem to be doing fine. Thanks for the advise. Do either of you think the shrimp could live in a refugium?

The CBS would be fine as a sump monkey...just be sure to feed it. CBS get big and mean...I had one for about 8 or 9 years and it snapped at any fish that came close enuff, so SH of any kind, much less zots would be dinner.

I'm not sure if I'm reading your original post right but I think you are either planning on moving LR/corals out of your dwarf tank or into your dwarf tank. Either way, LR/Corals are not recommended with dwarf seahorses. If you were planning to move them out of the dwarf tank, you might want to consider sterilising the tank to ensure that there are no hydroids or other nasties that could kill your dwarfs.

I think your H. erectus is almost 3 to 4 times the size of the H. zosterae at the moment.

Did you get a chance to see the H. zosterae at SS while you were there?

Dwarf seahorses don't get much bigger than an inch, and many coral banded shrimp would see that as a tasty morsel. Your ponies can't outrun predators either. Generally, seahorses do well with pipe fish and snails, not much else.

FWIW, pipefish have been the cause of an awful lot of seahorse deaths.
Almost all are wildcaught, containing pathogens that seahorses often succumb to.
Keeping other life forms with seahorses has been done, but many more die in the attempt to do so.

10g tank is actually too large for two dwarfs 2g to 5g is recommended
