Easier BTA? green or red?

Hello,

75 gallon tank with two kessil 150ws. Have 1/3 of tank open for ocellaris clown pair that is already hosting in a duncan, but killing it.

Which bubble tip is easier and requires less light?

LFS has a green with some red tips. Live Aquaria has the red metallic bubble tips.

thanks

To me, BTAs are BTAs, it doesn't matter the color, all are still E. quadricolor. The husbandry is all the same.

I can not decide which one to start with. Had a green one a year ago but it wandered under my t5 lights and tunze 6055 set up. Clowns did not host in it and sold back to pet store. Switched to vortech and recently kessil a150w.

i would say match it with the clown species you want/have, for example pink skunks look gorgous in a gbta. same with black occ in a rbta, but you have to get them to be hosted. i like clowns that have contrast colors to their anemone, the colors of both get accentuated. greetings

They are the same species, E. quadricolor, so care should be the same. Pick the one you like better and would be happy with.

I decided on a rbta. Had a green before that was a real neon green, beautiful glowing color, but not a host. Will try the red one.

Fingers crossed it works out. I needed some red in tank, Green seems to be a easy color to grow stuff.

I wish you luck with getting your clowns to associate with the RBTA. I had percs with BTA's for a year with no luck at all. It was not until I added a magnifica to my tank that I was able to successfully get my clowns to associate, and it took less than an hour with the new nem. If you clowns would not associate with a green they are just as likely to ignore a red one, mine had both colors (six total BTA's)

All bubble tip anemones are the same species, Entacmaea quadricolor, and have the same requirements as far as light, food, flow and other environmental conditions. Keep in mind that any specific animal can exhibit different colors and amount of "bubble" in the tips, depending on varying conditions. For the most part, the color will stay similar, although may lighten/darken due to conditions, but it could change if the animal changes or loses the zooxanthelle in its tissues.

As for hosting, many clown species host naturally in bubble tips. Occelaris and Percula do not.

While ocellaris or percula clowns do not use BTAs as hosts in nature, they will often/sometimes use them in an aquarium.

I have had them that went into BTAs almost immediately and I had a pair that were in the same tank with a large BTA for 3 years before they finally accepted it as a host.

I've often wondered why the LFS (around tampa) always have multitudes of RBTA's and hardly ever a GBTA, yet they want 80-100 bucks for the red ones and 30 for the green ones. Would seem if the red were more common (as it appears atleast) they'd be the cheaper ones.

+1...in seperate tanks, i have percs hosting in a rose, black captive born occys hosting in a rainbow, and yellow stripe maroons hosting in a green. Funny thing...it took the maroons the longest time to host, even though in nature that is the only anemone they arefound in! Apparently my overflow was more appealing.
