It's so true, we get the shaft when it comes to a lot of coral. I guess it's just so much easier to fly a shipment of coral from say Japan/Thailand to Cali, than to ship it all the way to New Jersey. To much of risk that a lot of corals will die. Then, once they hit cali, they get gobbled up by our fellow reefers, who share, but boy what a price we pay, coral+shipping. But what can be done? I found a guy with a Pink Lemonade acro, LUCKILY, on the east coast. But, it was a hunt. I'm looking for a raspberry acro, that's going to be another journey.

Anyway, there are more than enough great tanks on the East Coast, I'll post a pic of mines later. Nothing great, but it's mines.

Edwin

It is no greater risk to ship to LA then it is to ship to the East coast, maybe 3 extra hours on the airplane on a direct flight. The problem is that LA is the major importation zone as far as customs are concerned where importation from Asia is concerned. Customs regulation is the hurdle and that is where LA has the advantage. Long beach has the customs regulations down to a tee and to get NYC up to the regulations would not be worth the time.

Also, I am pretty sure that all shipments of Caribean and Red Sea importation flow through the East coast (probably Florida).

Copps, JBNY, where are you? :)

Thanks, I know there has been a lot made of tanks on the left coast, but I know there are plenty of "rares" on the right coast.

BIG BOY

What is that coral the is on the bottom about a foot from the right side of the tank? Looks straight up and down.

Who actually buys into the raised prices of these "LE" corals anyway, I mean yes they are beautiful corals dont get me wrong, but they are extremly overpriced and kept to a limited quantity to keep prices high. Its not fair for alot of people to have to pay $100 plus for a 3/4" frag IMO. I will pay that only maybe 2-3 times a yea on a must have coral, but Id rather trade with other locals for free :) Our reefing community should really turn into our main supplier rather than the LFS anyway!

We buy into that because they have a genetic disposition to keep a certain coloration. It is a known entity.

I have gotten an Oregon Tort for $20 and I will pass that on for the same price. I have also paid high prices for other corals that I really WANTED. The key is that I wanted them, and there will always be people with more money than me that will pay more than I do for the corals I want.

I do...because I like to.

gasman, was that porites that large when you got it?
I ask because I have a very similar looking peice, but its about 1/5 the size. Cant wait for it to look like yours.

sorry to keep moving the convo away from discussing the importance of LE pieces and LE prices. I know thats a very deep and important discussion.
