eBay LED fixtures

I price LED at the fish stores and they are expensive. I see them on eBay and they are reasonable. My question is what do I need if I want soft corals with a few SPS mixed in? My tank is 48" wide and 34" deep. I am a little concerned about getting penetration through that high of a water column. Are all LEDs created equal? Is there a sticky or link that gives details on LED choices?
This is one I liked--http://www.ebay.com/itm/USED-X-EVO-Quad-48-5W-LED-Aquarium-Light-Marine-Coral-Reef-64x-5-Watts-Hang-Kit-/301016066394?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4615f4a95a

I currently have a single 250w MH with 2-50/50 CF. I also have 2 more 250w MH fixtures that are not setup, but I want to get away from all the MH because of the high energy draw and heat.

all leds are NOT created equal.

There are a lot of choices out there. I personally took the top of the line fixture and had it replicated by a company on ebay from china.

Andy is the name of the guy...he is awesome to work with. I suggest doing some research on the lights and asking Andy to do what you want. he has a lot of products to choose from which may or may not fit your needs stock.

for the record, mine are great, growing sps, lps, and soft

I checked out the thread, but it seams that its mostly people arguing about venders posting as members etc...
I would love to go the route you did however I dont have the knowledge to tell someone what I need or the time to figure it out. I will shoot your guy an e-mail and see if he can suggest to me based upon what I have.
Thank you for the reply

that thread is a lot of bullplop when it comes to the back and forth, but there is still some good info on there.

Check out a number of top of line fixtures, and you can get the technical specs from any of them. cross reference that with the lighting needs of your corals of choice and mod your light requirements based on that.....I added, red, orange, yellow, and green bulbs to give me a more full spectrum light in my opinion. i also went with 20k instead of just 10k....

The only thing Andy cant do, to my knowledge, is give you a programmable fixture, but you can buy aftermarket mods for that if you really wanna go that route. dimmable, yes. programmable, no.

Thats ok. I wouldnt know how to program it anyway. Other than the fact that I know my corals need light I have no idea what im doing.

I got 2 evergrow d120s full spectrum and I like them a lot. Even in a taller tank the light penetration will be fine. On 100% power I was gettin 500 PAR on the sandbed, there 12inches off my 24 inch tall tank.

My tank is 34" deep. But from the sounds of it I should be ok. Im going to order these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141097805306?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Im looking for a controler to go with them. Also wondering about providing moonlight. Do I just dim these or do I need a acentic light for night?

Go metal halide
I have them now. They make a lot of heat, a lot of noise (fans), and they use a LOT of electric. Plus I still have CF to give me the blue. I have to build a canopy for this tank anyway and I dont want to have to modify the canopy to accept new lighting down the road.

A couple of the reef breeders fixtures would do the trick. I'd see if they could put 45 or even 30 degree optics on the blues at least the front row or two, 60 on the rest of the blues (for penetration and growth) and have them put 120 degree on all the whites and other colors (for aesthetics)

If you will have high rock work in the back you might put wider optics 90 degree on the back row or rows of blues in order to not burn things placed near the top of the tank and get a more even PAR though out the tank.

Reef Breeders will be comparable to price wise to the bulk of the similar ebay fixtures but they are well made and have gotten good reviews by pretty much every Reef Central member who has used them.

The Evergrow fixtures someone mentioned are also comparable and a decent light.

honestly all the chinese LED's are made by evergrow so where ever you get it, it will just be a rebranded version. I like the D120 but for you the programmable IT2040 or IT2060 might be a better option. Check for group buys on multiple forums. You can get 12 for about $180 each, otherwise they retail for over $280. I have 2 D120's on my 120 gallon. Keep it at 80 blues, 40 whites for SPS and LPS. If yours is 34" deep you may want 60 degree lenses as oppose to the 90 degree standard ones.

I went round and round reading about all the LED info. I finally ended up buying a Reefbreeders Photon. Couldn't be hapier with it.
