Ebay MH bulbs

Thought I would share, but I just got a 72" MH fixture with (4) T5's in my choice of colors for $499 delivered off of EBay.
I have to say, the seller was AWESOME even going so far as sending a couple of extra T5s in at no charge. His seller name is seabrookisland070508

I found him by looking up Metal Halide fixtures. He sells all sizes from a single pendant up to the 72" fixture I got with varying wattages and colors.

Again, with the great customer service I got from him, I feel obligated to share.

I also believe he sells replacement bulbs (MH and T5) in varying wattages, end configurations and color spectrum.

I just compared a Plusrite 20k 250w MH vs Radium 250w 20k on an ARO e-ballast over my 40B. The PR had about 5-10% more PAR, and was slightly more blue than the Radium. Both bulbs had the same amount of time on them... whether the PR would last as long as the Radium, idk. I have found the best place to buy the plusrites is 1000bulbs.

I have had amazing growth from my plusrights 175w

I think there 2 years old LOL

Did the 14k for the last 5 years.

Finally going to try the 20k's

Just checked ive had changed lights twice in the last 4 years.

I'm getting 2-3 years out of these bulbs before they grow GHA

I still like these lights too. I run three of them in Lumen Bright Mini Pendants.

I recently bought a Radium and put it in the center pendant and its not as bright as the PR bulb but the radium makes my coral pop. I really like the blue 20K radium color though so im biased.

On the other hand the 400W plusrite 20K bulbs are noticeably brighter, and have given me good growth AND I can buy 3 of them for the price of a radium bulb.
Its a tough choice and just depends on how rich you might be feeling when its light changing time. I think the price alone justifies trying one, my fish food costs more...

I used to run 20k 150w DE bulbs I got off ebay for cheap, made by Oddysea. They worked as well as Coralife bulbs and had a better blue imo. Phoenix fwt though.

After a year one of my bulbs turned a bit yellow.

Rebuilt my tank so I finally went LED, its saving my triple the amount of electricity used. I was at 765W and now I'm 250W with complete control of color, and I never have to buy bulbs again.

So you are saying that previously you used 765w and now you use 1/3 of that and have the same spread, par, and results?
What fixture did you end up buying?

The newer ocean revives that are 120W each.

Not even running them at 50% yet after 4 weeks

I have not measured par and it is a 30" deep tank and everything looks great.

Do you think 1 of them would replace my 400watt halide?

No. Not enough experience yet to state such.

I have heard they are similar to a 250W and one would have it turned up to do that.

For me, my 175W had massive growth in a 30" deep LPS tank, so I had no need for anything brighter. I would say I understand lower level lighting better then high level lighting.

If you have SPS on the bottom of a 24" it should do fine but growth may slow down dramatically over a 400W light.

I'm going for saving energy, I even swapped out my Iwaki bullet proof pump for a jebao just to save energy. the pump pays for itself in electricity savings if it last 10 months, it pays for itself.

I ran a 250 on my tank for awhile. Just tried the 400 because I could. So if I want to mimic the 250 one of the led fixtures will work.

Yes. YMMV some people have great success with LEDS, and some people have not.

I believe the trick is starting low and ramping up intensity slowly.

That would be nice to get the same coverage from 1 led as one halide. Even if I had to get the 200 way fixture to light my whole cube (48/48/24) with coverage and comparable par. That would be 1/2 the electric used now. Which would be a welcome sight, not that its a ton but who doesn't like to save money!
