Economical source of seaweed/nori for my tang

My newly acquired 5" blue hippo tang eats so much. It almost consumes 8 sheets of ocean nutrition seaweed for the past two weeks. Does anybody know where to get seaweed/nori with lower cost? Or any alternative source of seaweed?

Just go to the asian store and buy a package of seaweed make sure u get the unflavored type. if you can find the airdried one it'll be even better. $1.50 ea or so

Oops! I just got 10 sheets from Natural Life Aquarium during lunch break. I figure if my tang keeps eating like this, I will spend more on nori than electricity if I don't find a good source.

Thanks for your reply! I live in Union City. I will check those Asian stores on my way back home.

How much do the sheets cost at the LFS?

Also, do those fish eat chaeto or caulerpa? That stuff grows like weeds in most peoples tanks, you could probably "farm" it in your sump/fuge!
(Or get some from people giving it away! sfsuphysics brought a 5 gallon bucket of chaeto to the last meeting!)

any difference between the 'toasted' nori and the airdried ones you guys are talking about? the 'toasted' ('roasted'? don't have the package in front of me but think it said one of those) one i bought definitely has no seasoning or anything.. got it from an asian market. but should i be looking for something else?

The country market in Pacheco sell 100 sheet packs of nori for cheap. It think it was around $10.

It's $8.99 per 10 sheets in LFS. $5.49 in marinedepot.com.

Chaeto is good idea. I will try it by cliping it with seaweed. Just worry chaeto spreading all over the main tank.

None of my tangs will eat cheato...I believe it is too tough for thier likings?

My fish don't eat cheato either...

My yellow tang cleared out the graciela in my display but refuses to eat nori or cheato. It only ate romaine which I hate feeding it. Last time I was at the LFS I picked up some of Julian Sprung's red and green algae. It took a day or two but now the tang mows it down. Hopefully I can wean him onto nori because this stuff is expensive!

Both of my tangs ate cheato.

Since you're in Union City, there's a Lion Market on Fremont Blvd and Mission

There's a Ranch 99 on Dixon Landing and Warm Springs/Milpitas Blvd.

Toasted is fine, as long as it's unflavored, but pick up a flavor pack for yourself while you're at it. They're pretty good. :D I buy them in a plastic jar and individual wrap. Healthy snack when you're a couch potatoe. LOL
