My high end macbook has bugs..... and my iphone 5 dropped a phone call today. It is not something that I expect from such high end equipment.
Toshiba Satellite P755, with Intel I3 processor running Windows 7, Java Standard Edition version 1.7.0_09. I use Firefox(latest version) to connect. What are the details of your computer and Java JRE?
Once again, a ridiculous analogy. A bug that is annoying can be expected. A bug that makes the unit nonfunctional unable to connect, or causes damage due to malfunction is another. This is another example of an Ecotech apologist. Since it works for you, it's great. The fact that others cannot use the item as advertised is a risk the consumer takes. If you Mac products didn't connect, you'd be just as upset as anyone. Not even comparable.

I finally gave up on setting them up with my mac. I bought a second mac to make sure it wasnt the first. (I was planning on buying a 15in anyway) I had Brett helping me for over an hour and he got it but the same issue when I tried to log in again. The part I dont understand is that is has all my light info logged into it. I can see the serial numbers, and I can reset the lights with the mac. I am also having an issue with the firmware updating. If i choose to do an update it brings up a box to search for it. If I look in the folder that has the connection manager downloaded it will find it, and start to download it. The problem then arises when it downloads it comes up with a "FATAL ERROR" it makes my light totaly non functional, and I have to leave it unplugged and let it sit for 3-4min, and then plug it back in. I am off from work today so I might try to call them, or just wait for the new version.

With EcoSmart Live open, please close and reopen your Connection Manager. This will prompt the Connection Manager to download the latest firmware file. After that, close EcoSmart Live in your browser and perform the firmware update on your lights using the Connection Manager. Also, if you haven't already, please factory reset your lights as well through the Connection Manager.
As a software developer I think that ecotech's biggest problem has been not really explaining what a software beta is. Sure they have beta plastered everywhere that makes sense but I don't think that is enough.
Let me try explain how I would look at releasing a product to beta. Hopefully this will give some people some insight into how they should be viewing using any peace of software in beta.
At a certain point during the development of a product you start running out of bugs to work on. This can be due to a myriad of things but personally it is usually because of my nature of working though a task in the ways that it intuitively makes sense to me and how I expect the user to do it. The other big one especially with a product that will be installed on a users computer (the configuration manager) is the plethora of makes/OS/Internet connections exist in the real word.
All of these unknowns become REALLY expensive to test for. For instance my company has a test department whose sole purpose is to beat on the code until it breaks for us to then go back and fix. That's ten people at 50k+ which I would venture to guess is more than ecotech has working in their development department.
This brings us back to why do a beta release. Essentially a segment of my user base agrees to become software testers and reports bugs back based on there experience in exchange they get what is an early/free version of the software. In the long run it can be a lot more work because users don't always report in the best manner (you get a lot of its broke how do I fix it).
In the long run this post could have just said "it's a beta people" but I got the impression that although people think they know what a beta is they could use some insight. If Ecotech was trying to say this is a v1.0 (typically the first out of beta version we are at about v0.8) release that would be a much bigger issue. But as I see it Ecotech is diligently working through the issues to make the user experience the best it can be and people should expect this software to be imperfect.
