EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40 Release Information

chad508 - That would depend on the circumstances.
IceCap has a long history of going the extras mile for its customers and would deal with any situation based on what and why an incident occurred.

from what i can tell i got home last night and found the inside and outside units had come seperated. my guess is the inside unit got off balance and wobbled enough to sling the inside piece. this has happened one other time but i was home to reattach the two pieces. what then happen was that one of the sticky pads holding the wire came loose, im assuming from the weight. the outside unit then swung to the right and in the process scratched the glass. its not as if the scratch is deep but it is about 8" long. im sure nothing can be done but i would recommend to upgrade the sticky pads somehow so other won't have the same problem.

As a GE Tech and co-owner of Aquariums by Design I was hoping for a high tech solution. I installed a hook on my hood's side then put a loop in the power cord to support it. It has worked well twice but I was there and I was the cause of the fall.

E-mail me at my new address, IceCapash@verizon.net and we'll work out an accommodation. Sorry about the scratch.

not a problem, i just did as you and installed some eye hooks on my hood to zip tie the cord to. this should work when it happens again. have you thought of some thin plastic hooks that could hang on the rim of the tank to hold the cord? im sure the more you have to put into things like that it will only drive the cost up. just for curiosity have the pumps been tested for falls like this? woundering if the pump would be damaged if it were to land on tile, are concrete if it fell from 5 feet are higher. not that i want to be a test subject on this.

once again icecap and ecotech show how they are dedicated to customer service.

the sticky pad release in my tank to , my luck is that i put 3 of them but after that i take the pad out and put epoxy glue instead and no more problem .
my tank it's the AGA with the black plastic frame to me it's work good but i don't know if it will be good to in acrylic tank , once i take it off and i was able to clean the epoxy without any problem.

The pad came off my acrylic also but I had set up a backup. I had looped my cord up over my canopy around a backup air pump fastened there. When my pump separated and the sticky gave out the extra loop prevented a pump crash.

For those having issues with the pump halves separating, you really need to have the glass CLEAN. I scrub mine with a plastic scouring pad (glass tank of course!) and I have never had either of my pumps separate. My very first BETA pump has been going non-stop for about 4 months(since last cleaning) without issue. I still think these pumps are the best thing I did for my tank in recent memory. Also, Tim at Eco-Tech is the fastest when it comes to responding to emails. Great service!

so i just got my vortec and flow is ok i suppose, i actually expected more. i've got it in my 120g and it seems like on full power it's really only hitting 1/2 the tank, and it sure is loud! i've tried aligning quite a few times now but it's still VERY loud...in fact i can hear it from one floor above. is there a break-in period or something? has anyone else had this problem?

There is a break in period but even at first it shouldn't be that loud.

Curious. So you are saying the flow at full power doesn't go past 2 feet(assuming you have a std 120)? Mine will hit the far side of a 5' tank.

it's a steady whirring and yah, full power just isn't really all that impressive at all...i've tried to align it about 6 times now and still can't get anything better. i'm not really sure what to say but these things are over $400 in canada and maybe i'm just expecting too much?

One thing you have to understand about Vortechs is the flow is very wide but gentle. You won't see detritus whizzing by at 4 feet from the pump. But if you look at millipora polyps 4 feet from the pump they are moving very well in the current.

On the noise if it doesn't drop in next couple days contact Dave at Icecap.

I agree. I use 2 in my 6' 125G and the flow reaches the other end without a problem. Also, when aligned properly on CLEAN glass, they are silent. I'd contact Icecap and get it straightened out. Their service is second to none.
