I would like to buy some ecotech MP40 for my 75. I would like to buy used because the 460 or whatever they cost is a little steep. I was wondering if anyone here has used these in theyre tanks. Anyone have any thoughts on this powerhead/wavemaker?

Great choice. If you search the used forum you can get one much cheaper than retail. I got an older model for $250, but that was after searching for a few weeks and I was the first responder. For an ES model, expect to pay higher. They aren't cheap, but they are worth it. A nice alternative would be Tunze streams. They were $300-400 new back in the day, but since the advent of the Vortech they are selling for $100 all day long. They crank flow, and are bulletproof." Made in Germany, you know the Germans always make good stuff!"

My previous 120 gal tank had 2 mp 40's and my current 220 has 3 looking to add a 4th. Have had them for roughly a year now and so far i love them. If your into a mix reef they're ideal over tunze's imo because the pressure from the front isn't as linear where prior to these pumps id be ripping flesh off some lps if i wasn't careful on coral placement. Granted the price for these are still steep even when buying used they're worth it. As for features of the ecotech line pumps i personally love it because based on your rockwork you benefit more using one type of mode over another. Being a huge fan of different variables I can control these are the pump my favorite hope this helps.

I have two MP40's on my 150. One on each end of the tank. They do an amazing job keeping water moving, and the SPS love it. I originally had 4 different sized koralias. I noticed significant improvement in coral growth after upgrading to the ecotechs. Expensive, yes, but well worth it.

Yeah i want one for my 75. Whats the difference between es and non es other than about 100-150$. Would just that 1 mp40 be ok gor me? I could put pne of y existing powerbheads on the rock work to keep that from building up poop n food. Or would the mp40 do that by itself

Originally i started with one with power heads on the opposite side worked just fine for me. I believe the non es cant talk to a controller system and has 1 less mode? Not positive on this though.

jeez 4 mp40s? thats like $2k in flow. Im debating whether or not to spend $350 for a used one lol. My birthday is next week on the 4th if you want to share your wealth!
