ecotech to expensive

Mars Aqua seems to be the favorite but there are others that are good. Reef breeders and viparspectra are 2 others. Your light needs will.come down to what you intend to keep.

Viparspectra put out just as much PAR as the EcoTech Radion and cost way less, but they also have less control (which isn't an issue for your coral). If you want the sunrise/sunset control and 6 channel color control, Reef Breeders Photon V2 is the best value, but the cost is higher than the Viparspectra, yet still way less than the Radion. It's also way better looking IMHO.

both viparspectra and Mars Aqua are available on Amazon, the reefbreeders have their own website.

Ecotech is a brand, not a product... What are you trying to get? An XR15W Pro? An XR30WPro? 25 XR30WPros? We need to know more lol.

Op has stated they are looking for a light suitable for sps and ecotech ie radions are to expensive. So none of the lights you have suggested but a cheaper alternative that will support sps just the same.

Reefbreeders are great. I had them before I bought used radions. Used radions are a lot expensive then new ones.

After watching the BRS video on LEDS I wouldn't buy a mars aqua. They didn't say what brand they tested but it sure looked like a Mars

Reef breeder v2 for 48 inches is still $590 vs 800 or 900 hundred dollars for Radions. A bit cheap but not much. In contrast chinese black boxes are 100 to 150 each for two the cost is around 200-300 hundred. Now that is cheap but good quality light.

My 2 cents

There are plenty of blackbox leds out there that are knockoffs. I know a few people that run Mars on their SPS tanks and they grow just like they would with lights that cost 2-3xs as much

Couldn't for the life of me remember the name before but ocean revive is another one. I almost went with one of their lights but in the end got a maxspect razr instead.

Just trying to be the voice of reason here... before you plunge off and buy a black box you should really think about the safety. Some people have had no problems with theirs. Some people have burnt down their house with them.

I would invest a bit more in your light. It is one of the most critical pieces of equipment you will use. By saying this I don’t want you to feel like you have to buy a $1000 light. Just consider your options, think about your safety, and consider your long term goals

.........Some people have had no problems with theirs. Some people have burnt down their house with them.................

Dang. Not picking on you or anything.........but it sounded like you're saying halves of the BB's are OK, and the other halves can burn the house down. I wonder how many people on the Marsaqua forum had a disaster with their BB.

I started off with a 300W Marsaqua. I modified the LED spectrums, change the fans, add 2 timers, and built a leg for it. Everything (zoas, leather, RBTA) has been doing well. But if I were to start over, I'll would use a premium LED unit ( Reefbreeder, Kessil, Radion, AI.......) because they have all the "luxury" features that I want.
